Location: Hamady High School / Westwood Heights School District
Michigan Employment Type: Full-Time, 1.0 FTE 
Salary Range: Based on experience and WHEA Master Agreement 
Reports To: Principal


Position Summary

To provide students with a quality educational program that meets their unique developmental, social-emotional, and academic needs. The teacher will implement a comprehensive science curriculum aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum and Michigan Science Standards (NGSS) while fostering a curious and inclusive laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Planning: Develop and execute lesson plans that integrate the three dimensions of science learning: Crosscutting Concepts, Science and Engineering Practices, and Disciplinary Core Ideas.
  • Differentiated Learning: Employ MTSS and other strategies to support diverse learners, including those with IEPs or language barriers.
  • Lab Management: Conduct safe practical laboratory experiments and manage specialized equipment (e.g., Starlab projectors, data sensors).
  • Technology Integration: Utilize technology applications for classroom management and to enhance subject-area instruction.
  • Assessment: Collect, report, and interpret student data to adjust teaching strategies and monitor individual progress.
  • Professional Rapport: Establish and maintain positive communication with families, staff, and the community through newsletters, conferences, and collaborative PLC meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited teacher certification program.
  • Certification: Must hold a valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate (Grades 612 or 712).
  • Endorsements: Preference will be given to candidates with the following endorsements:
    • DX (Science) or DI (Integrated Science)
    • DC (Chemistry), DA (Biology), or DE (Physics) may also be considered for specific course assignments.
  • Safety: Must hold or be willing to obtain valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Clearance: Must pass a comprehensive federal criminal background check (Livescan).
