Job description

Job Summary: Assist the Starbucks Manager in the overall daily operations of the Starbucks department under supervision and direction of the Store Manager. Responsible for achieving the department budgeted sales goals as well as budgeted gross and net profit goals. Keeping controllable costs such as labor, supplies, expenses, etc. at expected levels. Supervise, lead, and develop associates to run the best Starbucks department in town. Ensure a customer service oriented environment that is friendly, properly staffed, and well trained. Maintain quality and freshness of product, well-stocked department and cleanliness of the sales and prep areas. Increase department sales with strong merchandising skills and creative displays. Serve as the leader for the department in all aspects of business and contribute to overall success of the store. Ensure that all policy and procedures are followed for the safety and security of our associates, our customers, and our company.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Manage Starbucks department and associates to maximize sales and profitability by controlling product loss and promoting sales
  • Effectively manage, understand, and teach others company standards in regards to Starbucks department operations
  • Responsible for delegating workload of department fairly and evenly to Starbucks associates to ensure all company customer service expectations are met.
  • Provide exceptional service for customers through managing and communicating expectations for customer service with all associates, recruiting and selecting quality associates, and planning adequate coverage through scheduling
  • Preparing, bagging, pouring and stocking Starbucks products, rotating items to ensure product quality and safety.
  • Taking customer orders, ensuring orders are completed in a timely manner and to the customer's satisfaction
  • Maintaining a positive and friendly attitude towards customers and fellow team members
  • Engage with customers through smiles and greetings, offering product information, providing selling suggestions and active sampling.
  • Process cash register transactions
  • Enforce proper food-handling procedures to ensure food safety as outlined in the company Food Safety program
  • Conduct weekly price changes and monitor accurate retail pricing for department
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels to incur few out-of-stocks, but with limited days' supply on hand to ensure freshness of product
  • Responsible for assisting the Starbucks Manager in preparing and accurately conducting physical Starbucks inventory
  • Monitor all reclaim reports while ensuring all reclaim containers are closed out weekly for proper accounting during inventory cycles
  • Maintain a clean department according to company standards and utilize cleaning calendar
  • Inspect product deliveries and rotate product on a regular basis
  • Merchandise Starbucks department on a regular, daily basis per plan-o-grams.
  • Responsible for implementing and enforcing all marketing programs per company standard.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the Store Manager and all Starbucks associates, providing them with instruction and information.
  • Assist in providing Starbucks associates with all required department training, development of necessary skills, and areas of job responsibilities including computer based training.
  • Ensure continued training and skill development for associates to increase retention of quality associates
  • Complete weekly department projections
  • Control labor through proper scheduling based on weekly sales projections
  • Attend department head meetings as scheduled by Store Manager
  • Discuss department staffing needs weekly with Store Manager and Human Relations Coordinator.
  • Engage in recruiting, interviewing, selecting and training of all new Bakery/Deli associates to ensure the Best Team in Town.
  • Enforce and maintain all safety policies and procedures.
  • Prepare performance reviews and assist Store Manager in conducting yearly review process for Starbucks associates.
  • Must listen to and resolve complaints or issues brought to the attention of the management team from supervision, associates, and customers
  • Understand and enforce all local and state health department rules and practices as well as federal OSHA guidelines and company HACCP policy
  • Responsible for participation in, follow up, and compliance of all Planned Period Visits (PPV) and mandatory Starbucks compliance procedures.

Qualifications:
  • High School Graduate, with college preferred
  • Knowledge of how to mix various Starbucks coffee and tea products
  • Knowledge of the ingredients that go into various products
  • Work with various Starbucks ingredients including various coffees, teas, spices, nuts, flavorings, sauces, and oils.
  • Additional seminar/class training in leadership, employee and customer relations helpful
  • Three to five years' experience in retail and/or Starbucks operations, operating as an assistant Starbucks manager for at least one year
  • Completion of Starbucks All Store Training program
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals on a daily basis
  • Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies
