Job description

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Construction Inspector - Municipal in Newark, NJ.


Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect construction activities for utility and municipal infrastructure projects, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater systems, and roadway improvements
  • Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and applicable codes and standards
  • Prepare detailed daily reports documenting work performed, site conditions, quantities, and project progress
  • Track installed quantities and maintain accurate records for payment applications and project documentation
  • Take and organize photographic documentation of construction progress and key milestones
  • Serve as a liaison between contractors, clients, municipal agencies, and the design team to facilitate communication and resolve field issues
  • Attend construction meetings and provide updates on project status, challenges, and schedule adherence
  • Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project requirements and quality standards
  • Assist with review of shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders as needed
  • Monitor project schedules and notify project managers of delays or potential impacts
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and report any unsafe conditions or practices observed in the field
  • Coordinate with utility companies and local municipalities during construction activities
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch list preparation and final inspections

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in construction observation or inspection, preferably on utility and municipal infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with construction methods, materials, and safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents

Compensation
