Job description

A Produce Clerk is responsible for maintaining the produce department's cleanliness, organization, and inventory to ensure a positive shopping experience for customers. Key duties include:
 
  • Stocking and Displaying Produce: Replenishing shelves and displays with fresh fruits and vegetables, arranging them aesthetically, and rotating stock to ensure freshness. Cut and package fruit and vegetables for sale
  • Inspecting produce for signs of spoilage or damage, removing substandard items, and ensuring all products meet safety and quality standards.
  • Use wet rack to transport produce from backroom to sales floor
  • Provide customer service to all customers in the store and department, including offering samples of produce
  • Prepare fresh salad bags
  • Clean backroom and take out the garbage
  • Check the sales floor for any spills/trip hazards and sweep/mop area two to three times per day and as needed
  • Customer Assistance: Greeting customers, addressing inquiries, providing recommendations, and assisting with locating items to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Inventory Management: Monitoring inventory levels, placing orders, receiving deliveries, and verifying the accuracy and quality of incoming stock.

Requirements, Skills and Experience:
  • 1-3 years of customer service experience in a busy grocery store or similar environment preferred
  • Understanding the importance and the ability to work well as part of a dynamic, diverse team
  • Must be able to correctly and safely use standard produce department equipment
  • Knowledge of produce, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques
  • Follow all safety rules and actively prevent accidents
  • Availability and willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.; stand, bend, reach, twist, and turn for up to 4 hours continuously
  • Must be at least 18 years
