IMEG is growing, and we'd love to have you join our team! We are currently seeking a Licensed Maryland Surveyor in our Manassas, VA office. You will be responsible for providing leadership in the daily operations of survey activities including construction layout, boundary, topographic, and as built surveys. The Senior Surveyor will be responsible for providing production surveying duties, applying diversified knowledge of principles and practices in areas of land surveying related fields, and providing surveying assistance under leadership from a Senior Land Surveyor. This position is responsible for calculations and surveying judgement based on surveying experience, documented practices, systems, and examples.
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex survey duties associated with construction stakeout and boundary, topographic, and as built surveys.
  • Research historic maps, land records, previous surveys, and land title reports.
  • Complete boundary reductions, boundary determinations, and mapping/topographic field reductions in CAD/survey software.
  • Responsible to maintain and verify accuracy of project survey data and managing company standards survey database; Review survey production and final products, processed data collection, and field notes for quality control.
  • Proficiency with survey computations, staking/control exhibits, and survey crew instructions for construction staking and field survey projects.
  • Knowledge for the operation and assistance of operation of GPS equipment, total stations, levels, data collectors and other survey equipment.
  • Supervise CAD Techs in preparing plans and plats describing in detail the surveys performed.
  • Advance the professional and productive working relationships with all clients and coworkers.
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, schedules, budgets and mentor and assist in training junior staff members.
  • Operate a company vehicle.
  • Observe safety and security procedures.

Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of land surveying operations, computations, principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering plans and construction documents.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively deal with public and governmental agencies, manage field crews, and schedule equipment and supplies.
  • Proficient in on-site office operation, office workflow processes and problem-solving techniques.
  • Advanced understanding of survey operations and identification of potential problems.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD C3D, survey, GPS, MS Office software.
  • Advanced problem-solving techniques.
  • Proven people management and leadership capabilities.
  • Possesses oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, officials, contractors, coworkers and professionally represent IMEG.
  • Valid driver's license with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier; must consent to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background check.
  • Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays.

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • 8 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry preferred.
  • Land Surveyor (LS) License required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.

Salary Range $85,000- $100,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
