What is a staking engineer?

A Staking Engineer is responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing blockchain staking infrastructure. They ensure the security, efficiency, and scalability of staking operations on proof-of-stake (PoS) networks. Their role includes managing validator nodes, automating staking processes, and monitoring network performance. They work closely with blockchain protocols, implement best security practices, and troubleshoot staking-related issues. This position requires knowledge of blockchain technology, networking, and scripting languages.

What does a staking engineer do?

A typical day for a Staking Engineer involves deploying and monitoring validator nodes, addressing network performance issues, and implementing security best practices to safeguard digital assets. You might spend time writing automation scripts, upgrading node software, and collaborating with blockchain developers, DevOps, and security teams. Regular tasks also include analyzing metrics, resolving alerts, and participating in community governance discussions. This dynamic environment requires vigilance and adaptability to maintain uptime and respond quickly to changes within the blockchain network.

How much does a staking engineer make?

A staking engineer's salary typically ranges from $80,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of blockchain networks they work with. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in blockchain protocols and security can earn higher compensation, often including bonuses or equity. The role often requires knowledge of blockchain technology, cryptography, and relevant tools or programming languages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a staking engineer?

To thrive as a Staking Engineer, you need a deep understanding of blockchain technologies, node operations, security principles, and scripting or programming languages like Python or Go, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), blockchain clients (such as Ethereum, Polkadot, or Cosmos), and relevant certifications in cloud or blockchain security are typically advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help engineers collaborate with distributed teams and manage complex staking infrastructures. These skills ensure reliable network participation, secure digital asset management, and successful optimization of staking operations.

Job description

Company Description:
We’re a forward-thinking startup focused on creating a transparent, community-driven blockchain protocol designed to solve real-world problems. Our mission is to build a decentralized ecosystem that prioritizes fairness, security, and long-term value for users—not quick profits. We’re seeking a developer who shares our commitment to ethical innovation and wants to pioneer the next generation of blockchain infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Design and build a decentralized blockchain protocol from scratch, including consensus mechanisms (e.g., Proof-of-Stake, DAG), network architecture, and governance models.
Develop and deploy native tokens or coins with fair tokenomics (e.g., equitable distribution, anti-whale mechanisms, locked liquidity).
Collaborate on smart contract development for protocol utilities (staking, governance, cross-chain bridges).
Ensure security-first practices: Conduct audits, implement cryptographic safeguards, and stress-test the network against exploits.
Work with cross-functional teams to integrate decentralized applications (dApps) and developer tools into the ecosystem.
Engage with the community: Document progress transparently, contribute to open-source repositories, and participate in AMAs/forums.
Optimize for scalability, interoperability, and low transaction costs (e.g., Layer 2 solutions, sharding).
Requirements:
Experience:
3+ years in blockchain protocol development (not just smart contracts).
Hands-on experience building Layer 1/Layer 2 blockchains (e.g., using Substrate, Cosmos SDK, Tendermint).
Proficiency in Rust, Go, or C++ (critical for protocol-level coding).
Familiarity with Solidity for EVM-compatible smart contracts.
Technical Skills:
Deep understanding of consensus algorithms, peer-to-peer networking, and cryptography (e.g., zero-knowledge proofs).
Experience with token standards (ERC-20, SPL) and cross-chain interoperability (IBC, bridges).
Knowledge of DeFi primitives (staking, liquidity pools) and governance frameworks (DAOs).
Mindset:
Passion for ethical Web3 practices (no pump-and-dump schemes, rug pulls, or misleading marketing).
Commitment to open-source development and public accountability.
Strong problem-solving skills to balance decentralization, security, and scalability.
Preferred Qualifications:
Contributions to open-source blockchain projects (GitHub profile required).
Experience with third-party audits (e.g., CertiK, Trail of Bits) and bug-bounty programs.
Understanding of regulatory compliance (e.g., Howey Test, MiCA) for token design.
Familiarity with decentralized governance models (e.g., on-chain voting, token-curated registries).
Why Join Us?
Build a blockchain from the ground up with a team that values transparency and innovation.
Shape a protocol that prioritizes community ownership and avoids centralized control.
Competitive salary + equity/token allocation (with fair vesting schedules).
Work remotely with flexible hours, but a strong emphasis on collaboration and accountability.
How to Apply:
Submit your resume, GitHub profile, and a brief note explaining:
Your vision for a fair and sustainable blockchain ecosystem.
A technical challenge you faced in past blockchain projects and how you resolved it.
Key Ethical Guardrails (Publicly Stated):
No anonymous team: Founders and developers will doxx themselves post-funding.
Liquidity locks: All LP tokens will be locked via Unicrypt or Team Finance.
Transparent roadmap: Milestones and budgets will be published openly.
