Overview

Quiddity Engineering is seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations in the Lakeland, Florida region. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing a variety of survey projects, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, utility surveys, and as-built surveys. 

The Survey Crew Chief serves as the field leader for survey crews, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, company standards, and client expectations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to independently manage field activities while maintaining effective communication with project managers, office staff, clients, and contractors. 

Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct daily survey field operations for a variety of public and private sector projects. 
  • Operate and oversee the use of GPS, robotic total stations, digital levels, data collectors, and other survey equipment. 
  • Perform boundary, topographic, construction staking, utility, route, and as-built surveys. 
  • Interpret survey plats, engineering plans, construction drawings, legal descriptions, and project specifications. 
  • Ensure accurate collection, documentation, and quality control of field survey data. 
  • Establish and verify survey control points and benchmarks. 
  • Perform construction staking and layout for roadway, utility, site development, and infrastructure projects. 
  • Maintain detailed field notes and electronic records in accordance with company standards. 
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, survey coordinators, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders. 
  • Identify and resolve field issues while communicating project concerns and schedule impacts to management. 
  • Ensure all survey equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition. 
  • Manage survey vehicles, equipment inventories, and field supplies. 
  • Train, mentor, and supervise field survey technicians and instrument operators. 
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain productivity while ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently. 
  • Travel to project sites throughout the Lakeland region and surrounding areas as required. 
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible survey field experience, including experience leading survey crews. 
  • Demonstrated experience performing boundary, topographic, construction staking, and control surveys. 
  • Proficiency with GPS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and survey software. 
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, plats, legal descriptions, and construction documents. 
  • Strong understanding of survey procedures, field calculations, and data collection methods. 
  • Working knowledge of Florida surveying standards and practices preferred. 
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions. 
  • Valid Florida driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. 
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain. 
  • Ability to lift and carry survey equipment and perform physically demanding field activities.  
  • Experience with Trimble or similar survey equipment platforms. 
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekend hours as project demands require. 
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Florida Certified Survey Technician (CST) certification. 
  • Experience supporting transportation, municipal, utility, land development, and construction projects. 
  • Knowledge of field-to-finish workflows and survey data management processes.
