How much do stage assistant jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for stage assistant in Indiana is $18.03, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $20.14 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A stage assistant typically does not earn $10,000 a month without specialized experience or union membership. High-paying roles in entertainment or production may reach that level, but they often require extensive industry experience, networking, and sometimes certifications. Most jobs paying this amount without a degree are in sales, entrepreneurship, or skilled trades, rather than entry-level positions like a stage assistant.

What is the difference between Stage Assistant vs Stage Manager?

AspectStage AssistantStage Manager
ResponsibilitiesSupporting the stage crew, setting up equipment, assisting with scene changesOverseeing all stage operations, coordinating actors and crew, managing rehearsals
Required CredentialsBasic technical knowledge, sometimes relevant certificationsExperience in theater, leadership skills, often certifications in stage management
Work EnvironmentTheater, production setsTheater, backstage, production management
Employer & Industry UsageTheater companies, production housesTheater companies, production organizations

The main difference between a Stage Assistant and a Stage Manager is their level of responsibility. A Stage Assistant supports the technical and logistical aspects of a production, while a Stage Manager oversees the entire stage operation, coordinating all activities to ensure a smooth performance. Both roles are essential, but the Stage Manager holds a leadership position with broader responsibilities.

What are Stage Assistants?

Stage Assistants are support staff who help with the smooth running of live performances, events, or productions. Their duties often include setting up equipment, moving props, assisting performers, and ensuring scenes transition seamlessly. They work closely with stage managers and technical crews to solve problems quickly and maintain safety standards backstage. Stage Assistants play a crucial role in making sure everything happens as planned during a show.

What are some common challenges a Stage Assistant may encounter during live performances, and how can they prepare for them?

Stage Assistants often face fast-paced environments where unexpected changes, such as last-minute set adjustments or technical issues, can occur. Being able to stay calm under pressure and communicate effectively with the stage manager, performers, and technical crew is essential. Preparation involves familiarizing yourself with each production's specific needs, attending rehearsals, and organizing props and set pieces meticulously. Proactivity and adaptability are key skills that help Stage Assistants ensure smooth transitions and successful performances.

What is the highest paid assistant job?

The highest paid assistant roles are often executive assistants or personal assistants to top executives, with salaries reaching six figures in some cases. These positions typically require extensive experience, strong organizational skills, and sometimes specialized knowledge or certifications.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

For a Stage Assistant, earning $300,000 annually is uncommon, as this role typically offers lower compensation. High-paying jobs in the entertainment industry, such as producers or senior technical directors, may reach this level, but stage assistants generally earn significantly less. Advanced roles requiring extensive experience, specialized skills, or leadership responsibilities tend to have higher salaries.

What qualifications do you need to be a Stage Manager?

To be a stage manager, candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, with many employers preferring post-secondary training or a degree in theater, stage management, or a related field. Experience in theater production, strong organizational skills, and knowledge of stage equipment and safety procedures are also important qualifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Stage Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stage Assistant, you need organizational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of stagecraft, often supported by experience in theater or event production. Familiarity with technical tools such as audio/visual equipment, stage management software, and communication systems like headsets is typically required. Reliability, teamwork, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are standout soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure smooth backstage operations, support performers and crew, and contribute to the overall success of live productions.
