Job description

Halo Investing is looking for a Chicago-based Staff UX Designer to lead the design vision for Halo’s structured notes platform. This role is for someone who can take complex financial products — structured notes, payoff profiles, barriers, buffers, etc. — and turn them into clear, intuitive, advisor-friendly experiences. This is a hybrid role, working in our Chicago office 3 days/week.

The right person will be comfortable operating at the intersection of finance, product strategy, user research, data visualization, and digital product design. This is not a role for someone who only makes polished screens. We need a designer who can understand how financial professionals evaluate structured products, uncover user needs through discovery, and help shape the future direction of the platform.

You will work closely with product, engineering, sales, trading, and compliance to design experiences that are useful today, scalable tomorrow, and flexible enough to support where the structured notes business is headed next.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with Product team to define user problems, validate opportunities, and shape product direction before solutions are built.
  • Run or support discovery through stakeholder interviews, user conversations, workflow analysis, competitive research, and prototype testing.
  • Own the end-to-end user journey for our platform. You will identify and analyze user behavior, uncovering friction points, and validating design concepts through qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Champion our user analytics strategy by owning and managing Fullstory. You will derive actionable insights from session data, create dashboards, and educate the broader team on user behavior trends to inform Product priorities.
  • Translate complex financial product mechanics into clear workflows, product pages, dashboards, comparison tools, charts, tables, and reporting experiences.
  • Design intuitive experiences for structured note discovery, comparison, analysis, education, and advisor/client-facing communication.
  • Help define scalable UX patterns for search, filtering, product comparison, scenario analysis, lifecycle events, issuer data, performance views, and reporting.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, journey maps, high-fidelity designs, and interaction models that communicate both the user experience and the product intent.
  • Work closely with Engineering team to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and well-implemented
  • Maintain and expand the design system using Figma to help build a cohesive framework for the engineering team to work from.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Trading, and Compliance to ensure Halo’s platform supports business workflows while meeting the needs of a regulated financial environment.
  • Identify friction in existing workflows and turn complex financial data into experiences that are easier to understand, explain, and act on.
  • Think beyond the current release by helping establish a design foundation that can support future products, new workflows, additional asset classes, personalization, automation, and evolving advisor needs.
Background and Experience:
  • 3+ years’ experience as a product-minded designer who can move from ambiguous problems to clear, thoughtful product experiences.
  • Strong experience designing complex B2B, fintech, wealth management, trading, capital markets, or financial advisor platforms.
  • Experience leading discovery , not just responding to requirements.
  • Proven ability to translate quantitative data and qualitative insights from tools like Fullstory into design decisions and product improvements.
  • Ability to simplify dense financial data without losing accuracy, nuance, or trust.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization , tables, filters, dashboards, product comparison, and workflow-heavy applications.
  • Ability to balance user needs, business goals, regulatory considerations, and technical constraints.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate across teams and functions
  • Experience using Figma or similar design and prototyping tools.
  • Comfort working with engineering teams and understanding how design decisions affect implementation.
  • A portfolio that shows strong product thinking , not just visual polish.
  • Prior experience in financial services strongly preferred; with understanding of structured notes, derivatives, annuities, alternatives, wealthtech, or advisor platforms.
  • Direct experience using session replay and analytics tools (e.g., Fullstory, Amplitude, Mixpanel) to inform design and product strategy.
  • Experience creating or evolving design systems for fintech, SaaS, or enterprise platforms.
  • Familiarity with advisor workflows, wholesaler workflows, product shelves, model portfolios, proposal generation, or client-facing investment materials.
  • Hands-on familiarity with frontend concepts, React, TypeScript, Material UI, or similar technologies
