Staff Rfic Design Engineer information

What is the difference between Staff Rfic Design Engineer vs RFIC Design Engineer?

AspectStaff Rfic Design EngineerRFIC Design Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, specialized in RFIC designBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, with RFIC focus
Work EnvironmentDesign teams in semiconductor or telecommunications companiesDesign and development of RF integrated circuits in similar settings
Industry UsageUsed in wireless, telecom, and semiconductor industriesPrimarily in wireless and RF semiconductor industries

The main difference is that a Staff Rfic Design Engineer often holds a senior or specialized role within RFIC design teams, focusing on complex projects and mentorship, while an RFIC Design Engineer typically refers to a more general or mid-level position focused on circuit design and development. Both roles require similar credentials and work environments, but the Staff Rfic Design Engineer usually has more experience and responsibilities.

What are the typical collaboration points between a Staff RFIC Design Engineer and other engineering teams during a project?

As a Staff RFIC Design Engineer, you will regularly collaborate with digital design engineers, layout engineers, and system architects to ensure seamless integration of RFIC components within broader system designs. You may also work closely with test and validation teams to develop testing procedures and troubleshoot performance issues. These collaborations are essential for aligning on project specifications, resolving design challenges, and ensuring that all components meet required standards and timelines. Effective communication and cross-functional teamwork are key aspects of success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Staff RFIC Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Staff RFIC Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, strong knowledge of RF circuit design principles, and experience with CMOS or BiCMOS technologies, usually backed by at least a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field. Familiarity with EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, ADS, and EM simulators, as well as understanding of lab measurement equipment, is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication abilities help you excel in cross-functional development environments. These skills ensure robust, innovative RFIC solutions and successful project execution in a highly technical and collaborative field.

What are Staff RFIC Design Engineers?

Staff RFIC (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit) Design Engineers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and test integrated circuits that operate at radio frequencies, typically for use in wireless communication systems, radar, and other RF applications. They are responsible for circuit architecture, layout, simulation, and ensuring compliance with industry and performance standards. As 'staff' engineers, they often lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver advanced RFIC solutions.

Job description

Description:

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in guiding the planning, coordination, and execution of advanced electrical systems on large-scale infrastructure projects. You will work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to ensure that all designs are technically robust, code-compliant, and aligned with project objectives. Your focus will be on delivering reliable, efficient, and scalable electrical solutions while upholding safety, quality, cost, and schedule commitments.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering with electrical building systems emphasis.

· Revit BIM design experience required.

· Proficiency in power distribution and lighting design, including controls implementation.

· Experience with short circuit analysis and utilization of analytical modeling software such as SKM or similar tools.

· Strong background in the design, construction, and commissioning of medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems, and power management or SCADA tools.

· Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineering (PE) license.

· Experience in mission-critical facilities and their electrical/mechanical infrastructure.

· Knowledge and experience in estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, and power monitoring.

· Minimum 5 years' experience in A/E industry preferred.

· Comprehensive understanding of professional services from conceptual design through project close-out.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to motivate and mentor staff.

· Familiarity with sustainable design approaches and related project impacts.

· Passion for improving workflows and mentoring team members.

· Proficient with Microsoft Productivity Suite products.

Job Responsibilities

· You will serve as a key liaison between internal departments, external consultants, contractors, and the Engineer of Record (EoR) to troubleshoot and resolve electrical design challenges.

· You will lead the development and review of electrical documents, including one-line diagrams, load calculations, panel schedules, submittals, technical studies, and RFIs.

· You will research and develop emerging trends and new technologies to optimize electrical systems and infrastructure in data centers, enhancing efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

· You will be responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of design packages by identifying bottlenecks, introducing efficiencies, and proactively managing evolving project requirements.

· You will ensure electrical systems meet all applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IEC) while maintaining design quality and mitigating technical risk.

· You will contribute to budget management by evaluating the cost impact of design changes, tracking electrical expenditures, and analyzing contractual obligations tied to the EoR.

· You will participate in risk assessment and commissioning efforts, including factory and site acceptance testing, milestone inspections, and integration verification.

· You will coordinate closely with mechanical, controls, and architectural teams to ensure the electrical systems are fully integrated into the broader design framework.

· You will mentor and support junior engineers, reinforcing consistent design practices and ensuring knowledge continuity across the team.

· You will help capture lessons learned and apply them to improve future design processes, standards, and project outcomes.

· You will support construction activities in the field, resolving installation issues, conducting walkthroughs, and ensuring a successful handoff to operations.
