Job Description
The Clinical Site Manager provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of an ambulatory medical practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered clinical care and an efficient, supportive environment for patients, providers, and staff.
This position is ideal for an experienced healthcare manager with a strong background in ambulatory medical practice, clinical operations, and team leadership. The Clinical Site Manager works closely with medical leadership and interdisciplinary teams to support clinical quality, patient access, staff performance, productivity, safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
A current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan is strongly preferred, particularly for candidates with experience leading medical teams in primary care, family practice, community health, or other ambulatory care settings.
The successful candidate will be a visible and engaged leader who understands the complexities of medical practice operations and can effectively balance clinical quality, patient experience, staff engagement, provider needs, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Practice Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the assigned medical practice.
  • Partner closely with medical leadership and providers to promote high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
  • Support clinical workflows, patient access, care delivery, productivity, and efficient use of practice resources.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical questions, concerns, and operational issues raised by patients, families, providers, and staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve clinical workflows, patient experience, access, quality, and overall practice performance.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
Team Leadership & Staff Management
  • Lead, coach, develop, and support medical practice staff to achieve organizational and departmental goals.
  • Create staff schedules, assignments, priorities, and coverage plans based on patient volume and operational needs.
  • Provide timely and effective coaching, feedback, performance management, and recognition.
  • Direct, supervise, train, and evaluate staff in accordance with organizational expectations and competencies.
  • Foster a team environment that promotes professionalism, communication, safety, accountability, and exceptional patient care.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate organizational priorities, clinical initiatives, operational updates, and performance expectations.
Clinical Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Monitor and address clinical and operational quality concerns within the practice.
  • Conduct quality assurance activities through chart reviews, reports, meetings, observation, and performance monitoring.
  • Identify and promptly address patient safety, employee safety, infection prevention, and environmental concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures and applicable state, federal, licensing, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement.
Practice Operations & Performance
  • Oversee daily practice operations to ensure efficient and effective delivery of medical services.
  • Collaborate with medical leadership to establish and achieve productivity and operational expectations.
  • Monitor staffing levels, patient volume, workflows, and other operational indicators to maximize practice efficiency.
  • Identify operational barriers and develop practical solutions that improve the experience of patients, providers, and staff.
  • Maintain the physical environment of the practice to meet organizational standards for cleanliness, safety, appearance, and professionalism.
  • Assist with development, monitoring, and management of departmental budgets.
  • Lead or participate in organizational initiatives, process improvement projects, and other operational priorities as assigned by the Director of Practice Operations.

What We're Looking For
We are seeking a healthcare leader-not simply an administrative manager-who understands the unique operational and clinical demands of an ambulatory medical practice.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Five or more years of healthcare management experience, preferably in an ambulatory medical setting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading medical teams and supporting multiple providers.
  • Experience in primary care, family practice, community health, managed care, or a similar outpatient clinical environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing clinical staff, including scheduling, performance management, coaching, and team development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of medical practice workflows, patient access, clinical operations, and provider productivity.
  • Experience with quality improvement, quality assurance, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience working with high-need or underserved patient populations is preferred.
  • Experience working within a federally funded or community health environment is a plus.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered when sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Ability to make sound decisions independently while appropriately collaborating with medical and organizational leadership.
  • Professionalism and sound judgment when working with patients, families, providers, staff, and external partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical record/electronic health record systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal healthcare regulations and requirements.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours when operational needs require.
  • Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification as required by licensure, certification, or organizational standards.
Education & Licensure
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, clinical experience, and healthcare management experience may be considered.

Experience
Required:
  • Five or more years of management or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working in an ambulatory or outpatient medical environment.
  • Experience working with multiple providers and multidisciplinary clinical teams.

Preferred:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with clinical experience.
  • Experience in primary care, family practice, community health, or federally qualified health center (FQHC) environments.
  • Experience managing high-need or underserved patient populations.
  • Experience with quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with healthcare operations, productivity management, patient access, and workflow optimization.
  • Experience working with government-funded healthcare programs or other regulatory environments.

Physical Requirements
This position may involve exposure to patients/clients with illnesses or infections. The position requires frequent telephone and computer use, including manual dexterity for writing and computer work. The position may require sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods, as well as bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be used as required.
