Job description

The Department of Ecology is hiring a Staff Hydrogeologist (Hydrogeologist 3) in Training for the Environmental Assessment Program at the Central Region Office in Union Gap, Washington. This role provides field and office support for groundwater monitoring programs, including characterizing groundwater flow, overseeing monitoring well installation, conducting field sampling, analyzing data, and producing technical reports. The position serves as field lead for the Lower Yakima Valley Groundwater Management Area study and manages ambient groundwater monitoring networks.

Key qualifications:
  • 6-7 years of professional experience as a hydrogeologist, hydrologist, or geologist with groundwater investigation expertise
  • Proven technical writing and reporting ability with presentation skills to various audiences
  • Hands‑on experience with environmental data management systems and groundwater field sampling methods
  • Valid Washington State Geologist and Hydrogeologist Specialty License required for Hydrogeologist 3 level
  • Project planning and coordination skills with ability to direct multi‑site groundwater studies
  • Experience with monitoring well programs, quality assurance practices, and HAZWOPER certification desired
