Montgomery & Associates (M&A) is seeking a full-time, early career staff hydrogeologist to join our California team.

Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, M&A is a growing firm of respected water-resource professionals expanding across the western U.S. and South America. Our California team comprises 24 professionals across four offices — Oakland, Sacramento, Monterey, and Pasadena. This position, based in Sacramento or Oakland, supports groundwater quality restoration and groundwater resource planning and implementation projects statewide, with a strong emphasis on Northern California and the Central Valley. Staff work at least 50% in-office to promote collaboration and mentoring.

What You'll Do
  • Work closely with an enthusiastic team of water resource professionals and clients on a diverse range of projects
  • Lead project tasks in close collaboration with project managers and technical advisors
  • Analyze and interpret hydrogeologic data to support the development of hydrogeologic conceptual models and numerical models
  • Participate in field projects, including well drilling and testing and monitoring programs
  • Prepare project reports and work plans
Education

Bachelor's degree in hydrology, geology, earth sciences, civil engineering, or environmental engineering; graduate degree and professional geologist or engineer license are beneficial.

Required Qualifications
  • 2 years of professional experience with hydrogeologic principles applied to characterizing and assessing groundwater systems; familiarity with the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act is beneficial
  • Experience with standard analytical tools like Microsoft Excel and geographic information systems (GIS); familiarity with computer scripting and hydrologic modeling software are beneficial
  • Experience preparing technical reports and presenting work during group meetings with coworkers and clients
  • Strong organizational, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills; team-oriented
  • Interest in professional organizations, including presenting at conferences

Compensation

Monthly Base Pay Range: $7,000 - $8,000

Estimated Annualized Compensation Including Bonuses: $95,000 - $110,000

Compensation for qualified extra hours could increase annual compensation.
