Your Opportunity
An opportunity exists in our Chandler office for a Staff Level Geologist or Scientist to support our team of professionals on a variety of site investigation and remediation projects, due diligence assessments with contamination by materials such as solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, and metals, primarily within the oil/gas and manufacturing industries.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Field data collection and analysis (about 80% work), including:
    • Loggings soil and rock core from subsurface explorations, including installing monitoring and remediation wells;
    • Soil, groundwater, surface water and air/soil gas sampling for analytical analysis;
    • Performing aquifer testing and groundwater flow evaluations;
    • Remedial system data collection and operation and maintenance, including pilot testing;
    • Environmental site assessments, including Phase I and II ESAs, and environmental audits.
  • Data compilation, boring log and well construction log generation, and report generation presenting key findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Assuring the quality of work and product deliverables and achievement of project objectives:
  • Manage multiple task requests simultaneously. Adherence to the approved scope, budget and schedule are imperative.
  • Communicate daily with the project team and clients as needed.
  • Oversee complex site assessment and remediation projects with multi-person project teams.
  • Perform pre-field preparation for on-site projects including development of health and safety documents, coordinating with subcontractors, and obtaining permits.
  • Assist in the management of multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Develop a working understanding of Stantec's other consulting practice areas and support cross-selling services to existing clients.
  • Assist with the review and tracking of project related invoices from contractors, other consultants, and equipment vendors.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by Stantec multi-discipline teams.
  • Reports to Senior Project Manager or Senior Technical Lead.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Proficient in policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training, leads by example, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.
  • Ability to work on site assessment, remediation, and other related environmental projects.
  • Knowledge and experience applying regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Experience in implementing and managing site assessment and remediation fieldwork programs.
  • Willing and able to conduct field work and travel, some of which will be for extended periods (typically, 2 to 7 days). Expected 50% field to 50% office-based ratio of supporting multiple projects.
  • Excellent internal and client communication skills to implement and coordinate fieldwork programs.
  • Team player with experience building, leading, and supporting a team of Project Managers and Support Staff.
  • Excellent writing, strategic thinking, and "people" skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of the local regulatory climate, and proven experience in the completion of site assessment and remediation projects with state and local regulatory oversight.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-Hour certification required, and 8-hour OSHA Supervisor certification, a plus.
  • Current MSHA (preferred)
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver's license.
  • Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Education and Experience
  • BS in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant site assessments, site investigation and remediation experience, including environmental consulting experience.
  • Passing score on Fundamentals of Geology (or equivalent exam) preferred.
  • This position will be in a typical office environment working with computers and working at a stationary desk for long periods of time.
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
  • Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
