What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Stack Testing Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stack Testing Technician, you need a solid understanding of environmental science, air sampling methods, and relevant EPA regulations, typically supported by a science degree or equivalent technical training. Familiarity with stack testing equipment, data logging systems, and certifications such as Source Evaluation Society (SES) accreditation are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork distinguish top performers in this field. These skills ensure accurate emission measurements, regulatory compliance, and reliable reporting for environmental protection.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in stack testing, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in stack testing often encounter challenges related to variable weather conditions, strict regulatory requirements, and the need for precise data collection. Working at elevated heights and handling sensitive equipment also require adherence to stringent safety protocols. To address these challenges, teams typically undergo thorough safety training, use specialized monitoring instruments, and maintain clear communication with other environmental and engineering staff to ensure accurate results and regulatory compliance.

What is stack testing?

Stack testing refers to the process of measuring the emissions released from industrial stacks or chimneys to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. It involves collecting and analyzing samples of gases and particulates emitted during industrial processes. The results help determine if a facility is meeting air quality standards and can identify areas for improvement. Stack testing is typically required by regulatory agencies to monitor pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter.

Job description

About Stack:

Stack is developing revolutionary AI and advanced autonomous systems designed to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency of modern operations. Stack\'s autonomous technology incorporates cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and cloud technologies, empowering us to create innovative solutions that address the needs and challenges of the dynamic trucking transportation industry. With decades of experience creating and deploying real world systems for demanding environments, the Stack team is dedicated to developing an autonomous solution ecosystem tailored to the trucking industry\'s unique demands.

About the Role:

Product Operations is Stackโ€™s Customer-Facing Operations team. We focus on understanding our customerโ€™s needs and ensuring that we execute daily missions in support of those needs. Internally we seek continuous improvement, working to streamline tools and processes used inย  daily operations to keep our team safe, deliver loads on time, and gather the information our engineering team needs to improve our systems.ย

As a Freight Logistics Manager within Product Operations, you will serve as Stackโ€™s go-to person for orchestrating safe, efficient, and compliant freight movements. In this role, you will lead both the implementation and execution phases of commercial pilots to guarantee successful customer onboarding, seamless lane launches, and strict SLA adherence. By managing vital external communications to prepare pilot customers for new lanes and expanded scope, you will bridge the gap between commercial growth and operational excellence to enable scalable business expansion.

This position is located in New Stanton, PA, but can be performed remotely.ย

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all pilot and test missions comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, as well as state-specific autonomous vehicle (AV) testing and deployment mandates.
  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for freight disruptions, weather delays, and operational exceptions, ensuring minimal impact on customer supply chains.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements to lower unnecessary dwell time and delays on route.
  • Oversee day-to-day freight movement for commercial pilot partners, ensuring delivery SLA is met and seamless hub-to-hub operations achieved.
  • Act as a primary operational point of contact for pilot customers. Conduct regular operational reviews, provide performance metrics, and translate customer feedback into operational workflows.
  • Partner with the product and engineering teams to provide operational feedback, helping to shape the internal dispatching tools, driver scheduling, asset and service tracking, and freight management software.ย

Qualifications:ย

  • 5+ years in freight brokerage, carrier operations, or fleet management. Experience managing fleets or commercial accounts is highly preferred.
  • Deep, practical knowledge of FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service (HOS) exceptions, and DOT safety management controls.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage transportation management systems (TMS) to optimize Stackโ€™s delivery SLA performance and overall efficiency.ย
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment where operational workflows are being built from the ground up.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with a track record of managing enterprise-level corporate clients.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We believe that diverse teams produce the best ideas and outcomes. We are committed to building a culture of inclusion, entrepreneurship, and innovation across gender, race, age, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and identity.
