FLSA Status: Non-Exempt; Hourly
Pay Rate: $17.75/hr.


Description:

The Diocese of San Diego is seeking a qualified, experienced and passionate preschool aide who is deeply committed to developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking leaders to serve our future Church and our world. St. Rita's Catholic Preschool is a parish school located in San Diego, California.


Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Gets materials/supplies ready for the day and sets up equipment inside the classroom and on the playground.
  • Prepares naptime by setting up mats placing and placing bedding in bags at the beginning of the week.
  • Assists with general housekeeping tasks to provide a safe and clean classroom environment. These tasks may include disinfecting heavy traffic areas, clearing and cleaning sinks, countertops, and tabletops and sweeping.
  • Supervises students during lunch, snack, recess, on the playgrounds, and while in line.
  • Assists students having difficulty resting during naptime.
  • Recognizes student needs and provides solutions
  • Complies with CA state and county codes and licensing regulations.
  • Follows classroom rules determined by lead teachers and/or the director.
  • Supervise bathrooms as needed, including changing children that have had bathroom accidents
  • Attends all professional development trainings, school functions, and staff meetings.
  • Performs other jobs/tasks/duties deemed necessary for a smooth functioning program as assigned by the teacher and/or director.

Requirements

Religious Qualifications:

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy

Professional Qualifications:

  • Proof of completion of 12 or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to understand the stages of early childhood development and learning progressions
  • Ability to solve problems and provide solutions.
  • Ability to cope with a stressful environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and duties based on needs of children and teachers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements upon hire:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Proof of immunizations
  • Proof of completed Mandated Reporter training for Child Care Providers
  • Cleared TB test to work in Licensed Child Care Facility

Physical Requirements:

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:

  • Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher aide will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
  • Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
  • Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces.
  • Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending.
  • Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class.
  • Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
