What is SSRS?

SSRS stands for SQL Server Reporting Services, which is a server-based report generating software system from Microsoft. It is used to design, develop, test, and deploy reports, which can include tables, charts, graphs, and data visualizations. SSRS allows users to create interactive, tabular, and graphical reports from a wide range of data sources. These reports can be accessed via a web browser, or delivered via email or other formats. It is commonly used by businesses to turn raw data into actionable insights.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SSRS developer?

To thrive as an SSRS Developer, you need strong SQL skills, experience in database design, and a solid understanding of data reporting concepts, often supported by a relevant degree in computer science or information systems. Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), T-SQL, and familiarity with tools like Visual Studio and report deployment processes are essential. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and clear communication set standout professionals apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate, actionable reporting that supports data-driven decision-making within organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by SSRS developers when creating and deploying reports in a business environment?

SSRS developers often encounter challenges such as handling complex data sources, optimizing report performance, and ensuring reports render correctly across different devices. They may also face issues with managing permissions and access control to sensitive reports, as well as integrating SSRS with other business intelligence tools. Collaboration with database administrators and business analysts is crucial to ensure data accuracy and that the reports meet end-user requirements.

** ETL Mapping - Data is coming from Oracle and SQL Server Database

He wants to have someone who he can sit down with and discuss mapping out mass amounts of data from all different Databases and getting the data onto their new platform and then have this person literally map (document) and execute it with him.

As for "DevOps" They deploy their apps both Automated and Manual

Nice to Have- not requirements- MySQL and DB@ (however he thinks asking for DB2 is probably too much for this role and pay)

Important- MySQL- SQL- SQL Server

- Wants someone who is smart, knows what they are doing (doesn't need their hand held)- education is not important to him (having a degree isn't a non negotiable) and they are very casual there in the DC office

- 6 month contract with potential to be extended- or go perm- depends on fit, performance and workload at 6 months- also depends on the outcome of the migration

-- Where candidates/ vendors are missing- he keeps seeing people with the full stack or a lot of SSRS and reporting- really needs the focus to be on ETL and SQL

Job Summary:

This role acts as subject matter expert on data warehousing and reporting and is responsible to lead the analysis, design, development, implementation and support of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and key reporting deliverables. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SSRS, SSAS, and dimensional modeling to use this data to create software applications that present data through reports, dashboards, scorecards, and KPI's.
