Job description

Summary of the Role

The Senior Engineer (E3) in the Firmware & Product Testing (FPT) team supports the validation of enterprise SSD firmware through test development, automation, execution, and failure analysis. This role focuses on NVMe front-end features and customer specifications while applying Python-based automation and data-driven techniques to improve test efficiency and product quality. Working closely with firmware test engineers, senior mentors, and data scientists, the engineer gains hands‑on experience at the intersection of firmware validation and AI/ML, contributing to more effective and scalable testing methodologies.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement SSD firmware test strategies across development, qualification, and sustaining phases
  • Design and implement tests for firmware features, NVMe protocols, security capabilities, and system behaviors
  • Analyze failures from regressions, customer issues, and field returns to identify root cause and drive resolution
  • Build and maintain Python-based automation, regression frameworks, and test coverage reporting
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams on feature validation, debug, design reviews, and AI-enabled process improvements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience in SSD firmware testing, firmware validation, or firmware development
  • Strong knowledge of NVMe architecture, storage protocols, PCIe, and host-to-device interactions
  • Experience with Python-based test automation, debugging firmware issues, and analyzing hardware/firmware interactions
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SSD security validation, including TCG Opal, Enterprise SSC, NVMe security commands, SPDM, DICE/CMA, and secure boot technologies
  • Knowledge of cryptographic technologies such as AES, RSA, ECC, SHA-2, SHA-3, and post-quantum cryptography concepts
  • Experience building scalable validation infrastructure, regression frameworks, and CI/CD-based test execution
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate across global engineering teams
  • Candidates with 2-3 years of experience and strong Python programming and test development skills may be considered for entry-level opportunities

Micron Technology is committed to advancing memory and storage solutions through engineering excellence, multi-functional collaboration, and responsible innovation.
