Job description

Job Description
  • Senior System Administrator will be a highly skilled and experienced engineer responsible for providing expert guidance and hands‑on management across a diverse systems landscape.
  • As a self‑directed individual, you will ensure secure, high‑performing, and scalable environments through the independent configuration, monitoring, and optimization of systems running on various operating systems, including but not limited to Windows Server, Linux (various distributions), and virtualization platforms like VMware and Hyper‑V.
  • You will expertly manage and maintain core infrastructure services, such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise‑level applications, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • The candidate must bring a strong engineering approach to troubleshooting complex system‑related issues, providing detailed root‑cause analysis and developing effective, well‑documented solutions.
  • A critical component of this role includes designing, implementing, and testing robust disaster recovery and data backup strategies utilizing technologies such as Veeam, Azure Site Recovery, or similar solutions.
  • The candidate must analyze system performance bottlenecks across the entire infrastructure, engineer solutions for optimization based on organizational needs and SLAs, and implement secure user permissions and access controls while adhering to best practices.
  • Collaboration with vendors and hardware providers is essential for managing upgrades, patching, and evaluating new technologies for potential adoption.
  • Beyond day‑to‑day operations, you will analyze IT‑related trends, risks, and opportunities to identify areas for engineering improvement across the enterprise, recommending and guiding the adoption of innovative technologies that align with the organizational mission.
  • Finally, you will ensure compliance with cybersecurity, audit, and federal IT standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA), applying an engineering‑minded approach to securing systems and processes, while providing clear and concise technical documentation for all implemented solutions.
