What is a Sr Sales Development Representative?

Sr Sales Development Representatives (Senior SDRs) are experienced professionals who focus on generating and qualifying leads for sales teams. They reach out to potential clients, identify opportunities, and help move prospects through the early stages of the sales pipeline. Senior SDRs often mentor junior team members, develop outreach strategies, and collaborate closely with account executives. Their goal is to create a steady flow of qualified prospects, contributing directly to the company's revenue growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sr Sales Development Representative?

To thrive as a Sr Sales Development Representative, you need a solid understanding of sales processes, lead qualification, and market research, often backed by a bachelor's degree or relevant sales experience. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, sales engagement tools, and data analytics systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, resilience, and relationship-building skills help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualifications are essential for efficiently identifying high-potential leads, nurturing customer relationships, and driving revenue growth.

What are some common challenges Sr Sales Development Representatives face when transitioning from individual contributor to team leadership roles?

Sr Sales Development Representatives often encounter challenges such as balancing their own quota responsibilities while mentoring junior team members, adapting to more strategic planning tasks, and learning to delegate effectively. They may also need to develop stronger communication skills to align their team's efforts with broader sales goals and collaborate more closely with marketing and account executives. Successfully navigating these challenges can position them well for future advancement into sales management roles.

Own new business across one of the fastest-growing smart home markets in the country. This is a high-impact "hunter" role designed for a sales professional who thrives on building a pipeline from scratch and delivering sophisticated, technology-driven solutions that make homes and offices more connected and comfortable.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and present comprehensive sales proposals, collaborating with internal system designers on technical specifications.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with regional trade partners through one-on-one meetings and group presentations.
  • Manage the full sales cycle within the CRM, ensuring every touchpoint is logged and data is used to optimize outreach strategies.
  • Consistently meet and exceed monthly and quarterly sales and revenue targets.

Requirements
  • Proven track record in sales hunting or business development with a history of building pipelines from scratch.
  • Experience conducting professional in-home or on-site sales consultations and developing detailed client proposals.

  • Self-directed and highly organized, with the ability to manage a complex calendar and follow-up schedule independently.
  • Ability to quickly learn and articulate the value of smart home technology (lighting, audio/video, security, and automation).

Nice-to-Haves
  • 3+ years of experience in custom integration, A/V, lighting control, low-voltage, or residential construction sales.
  • Existing book of business or established relationships with Houston-area builders, designers, or architects.
  • Working knowledge of major home automation platforms.
  • Consistent history of exceeding sales quotas in a consultative environment.
