Purpose of the role

To support the Risk Function in delivering it's objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.

Accountabilities

  • Development of strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
  • Management of the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Relationship management of risk stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third-party services.
  • Adherence to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintaining a robust control environment.

Vice President Expectations

  • To contribute or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change. Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies / processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches of policies / procedures.

Join us as a Technology Application Development (TAD) Manager and become a key member of Group Technology Governance & Change at Barclays. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and evolve the Technology Application Development (TAD) Standard, a critical component of Barclays' technology risk and software delivery framework. You will work at the intersection of engineering, governance, risk and technology transformation, influencing how technology solutions are designed, built, tested and released across the organisation. The role offers significant exposure to senior technology leadership and provides a unique opportunity to drive modern governance practices through automation, engineering excellence and emerging AI capabilities.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Extensive experience in managing a Risk Controls Standard , measuring KRIs, managing business compliance reports and audit mapping of incidents issues to the Standard controls.
  • Strong understanding of modern software delivery and engineering practices, including Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, testing, release management, production operations and software engineering controls.
  • Proven ability to define, implement and drive adoption of technology standards, controls or governance frameworks, balancing risk management with effective delivery outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience managing technology risk, audit and regulatory requirements, including remediation of findings, control improvements and strengthening governance effectiveness.
  • Strong stakeholder management, attention to details and effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to operate credibly across engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, risk and business 3executive leadership communities.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Experience leveraging automation, engineering platforms and data-driven insights to enhance governance effectiveness, compliance and developer experience.
  • Knowledge of Cloud, AI and GenAI technologies, with an interest in applying emerging capabilities to modernise software delivery governance and control frameworks.
  • Experience supporting large-scale technology transformation programmes and embedding governance across complex organisational environments.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret management information, identify trends and articulate recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt AI capabilities to optimise day-to-day activities, improve decision-making and enhance operational efficiency to a high standard.
