About the team and position
The Senior Manager of Operations Development is responsible for leading the Inspection Center Operations Development team through continuous improvement projects by proactively and effectively leveraging the Operations Development team to create and refine processes within Carvana's Inspection Center organization using lean methodologies. Additionally, this position will work closely and communicate with all departments and levels throughout the business to deliver proactive & thorough, cost and quality improvements in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment.
What you'll be doing
  • Takes a proactive approach in assessing new continuous improvement opportunities and provides guidance to the team on appropriate courses of action
  • Partner with Inspection Center functional experts to create and set vehicle standards to best meet our business need and provide an exceptional customer experience
  • Serve as a resource for the Reconditioning Training team when developing content regarding work processes, standards, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining a strategic roadmap of Operations Development goals and team structure, and career development
  • Acts as a key thought partner to Inspection Center senior leadership on problem solving initiatives
  • Review and provide guidance on Operations Development justification for major projects, with a cost savings greater than $1M within Inspection Center operations
  • Support team in obtaining buy-in on major projects through effective communication with multiple departments across the organization
  • Deliver cost reductions on time and under budget on major projects, and effectively report out on results to Senior Leadership
  • Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement by developing standard work and visual training within existing processes
  • Serve as a cross-functional business partner across the organization to provide direction on the creation of labor standards and line staffing models
  • Creates strong working relationships within all levels of the organization
  • Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to team members in order to drive results
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety guidelines

What you should have
  • BS in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering (MBA preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a lean manufacturing environment
  • At least 3 years of experience managing cross-functional teams or projects (Ideally with direct reports)
  • Proven track record of implementing successful projects that impact the bottom line
  • Knowledge and understanding of lean manufacturing
  • General knowledge of OHSA guidelines
  • Willingness to travel between Carvana facilities across the U.S, as projects require
  • Valid driver's license
  • A clean driving record with no more than two moving violations or DUI's in the last three years
  • Excellent communications skills to all levels of the organization, oral and written
  • Ability to work through teams to achieve results
  • Strong analysis and decision making ability
  • Excellent facilitation skills through engagement, diplomacy and diverse opinions
  • Ability to work independently as well cross-functionally in a team setting
  • Proficient computer skills including AutoCAD, Excel, Word

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • A clean driving record with no more than two moving violations or DUI's in the last three years
  • May be requested to work overtime and weekends for special programs and events
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds independently; majority of lifting from knee to shoulder heights; other lifting required from various levels
  • Must be able to carry and transport up to 60 pounds up to 20 feet
  • Requires standing for extended periods of time with frequent stretching, reaching, walking, stooping, pushing, and/or pulling in an environment that may be cold, hot, noisy, and wet and may have fumes or odors due to vehicle maintenance
  • Requires excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity
  • Requires use of safety equipment that may include but not limited to face shield or goggles, non-slip shoes, gloves, mask, and other protective garments and equipment
