Job description

About BreakAway Data:
BreakAway Data is revolutionizing sports performance by connecting athletes with their own data story. We aggregate, visualize, and analyze fitness, performance, and health data to help both professional and aspiring athletes make smarter decisions and reach their full potential. Our platform is being used by the NBA, NWSL, ATP, and NWSLPA on the pro side, plus federations, tournaments, and youth clubs across the country. We're just getting started.
What this role is
You're the person who ensures operational success for both BreakAway and our customers. When a customer needs us to provide stat coverage across 250 games in a single weekend, you're running that operation. When a youth club is prepping for their biggest tryout of the year using our product, you're the human making sure they're set up for success. When an internal project needs scoping, tracking, or rescuing, you're the one who steps in.
You'll know our product better than almost anyone in the company within 90 days and use that knowledge to ensure our customers are successful and our team is shipping on the most critical path items.
This isn't a SaaS project management role. You won't live in Jira or run sprint ceremonies (though, we do use Linear). You'll get things done in the field, with customers, and across messy cross-functional work. You're the person that we can hand a hard problem to and walk away with 100% confidence it will be solved.
What you'll actually do
Run our events. Some weeks you'll live and breathe a single tournament: staffing plans, intern coordination, tech setup, customer-side logistics, on-site quarterbacking, debriefs. Other weeks there's no event at all. When an event is happening, it's your show and your standard.
Own customer delivery and success. For the customers not running a Breakaway-staffed tentpole (clubs, smaller federations, tournament operators), you're the human making sure they're set up for success at their events. Proactive check-ins, feedback gathering, on-the-field troubleshooting, guiding customers through the product. It's account management shaped like event production.
Run internal projects and operations. At any given point in time, we have multiple internal projects happening. You'll be working with our COO and product team to keep the trains running across growth and product projects: scoping, tracking, unblocking, and ensuring we ship on time.
Who you are
  • 2-4 years of doing. You've run something real end-to-end: an event, a launch, a program, an account, a function. You've got receipts.
  • Whip smart. You process information fast, write clearly, and can hold a dozen threads without dropping one.
  • Ridiculously organized. You have systems. You don't lose things. When someone asks you for a status, you have one.
  • Customer-facing by instinct. You can walk into a youth tournament director's office or a federation exec's call and make them feel like you've got it. You're warm, credible, and calm under pressure.
  • Tech-native. You don't have to code, but you understand how software works. You pick up new products fast. You will become the in-house expert on our product: how it works, how it fails, how to fix it live.
  • AI-pilled. You use Claude or ChatGPT every day (bonus points for Claude Code). You've automated real work with these tools. We'll ask you to walk us through something specific you've built or automated. If that question makes you nervous, this isn't the role.
  • Cool with chaos. Events happen on weekends and things break on the field. You can handle this.
The logistics
  • Los Angeles, in-person. You'll be in the room with us.
  • Travel. Expect to travel for events. Expect some weekends during event windows. We're flagging it up front so you're not surprised.
  • Reports to: COO.
How to apply
Please include your resume and a short note that tells us:
  1. Something hard you ran end-to-end and what worked and what didn't
  2. Why this role
