Job Description
Overview:
We are seeking a Software Engineer - Sr Consultant to lead the design and delivery of critical platform capabilities within Visa's Intelligent Commerce ecosystem.
This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, APIs, and intelligent commerce experiences. You will drive technical solutions across multiple services, partner closely with Product and Architecture, and provide technical leadership for complex engineering initiatives.
This is a highly hands-on leadership role requiring strong system design expertise, execution excellence, and the ability to influence engineering decisions across teams.
Essential Functions:
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend platforms, APIs, and distributed systems
  • Drive architecture and technical design across multiple services and components
  • Partner with Product Managers and Architects to create scalable technical solutions
  • Lead delivery of large, complex initiatives from design through production deployment
  • Serve as technical lead for key platform investments and strategic capabilities
  • Contribute hands-on to coding, design reviews, debugging, and performance optimization
  • Establish engineering best practices across reliability, observability, security, and scalability
  • Drive adoption of cloud-native architectures and modern development practices
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across teams
  • Collaborate across organizations to align dependencies and deliver integrated solutions
  • Identify opportunities for platform reuse, simplification, and cost optimization
  • Champion AI-assisted engineering workflows and development productivity improvements.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
  • 10+ years building and operating distributed systems at scale
  • Expert-level experience in Java and/or Python
  • Strong expertise with microservices, APIs, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD
  • Proven experience leading architecture and design for complex systems
  • Experience driving delivery across multiple engineering teams
  • Exposure to AI platforms, agent-driven systems, or intelligent commerce workflows
  • Experience improving engineering processes, reliability, and developer productivity

U.S. Applicants Only
The estimated salary range for this position is $152,200.00 to $ 243,700.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
