You'll be responsible for inspecting some of the most complex residential and commercial projects for the applicable construction codes while providing exceptional customer service to building owners, occupants, contractors, and the general public. If you have electrical inspection experience and an ME-01 level electrical license *or equivalent, we encourage you to apply. Senior Inspector is the top level in the Electrical Inspector series.

This position works under the general supervision of a Review & Inspection Supervisor. Positions in this class perform with a high degree of independence to conduct advanced technical inspection work characterized by a majority of assignments at a highly responsible and complex nature for new and remodeled buildings. The purpose of the work is to inspect field construction to evaluate conformance of electrical systems and related facets of compliant construction in accordance with the approved plans, applicable national, state, and City of Bellevue construction codes and policies & procedures.

Minimum Qualifications Required For All Applicants Current Master-level Electrician certificate (ME01) issued by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and four years of experience as a journeyman electrician, after obtaining an EL01; OR Four year's experience as a journey level electrician performing the duties of an electrical inspector employed by the department or a city or town with an approved inspection program under RCW 19.28.141; AND Three or more years performing as an electrical inspector for a jurisdiction, enforcement agency, or similar entity. OR *Other experience and qualifications specified under RCW 19.28.321, coupled with commercial building inspector certifications and experience & qualifications deemed equivalent to the Master Electrician's license. Essential Duties and Responsibilities In addition to the duties performed by the Electrical Inspector classification, the duties of the Senior Inspector include: Independently evaluate approved plans and inspect a full range of routine to complex technical designs of new construction or remodeled building projects during progressive stages of construction activity, particularly in the construction of high-hazard, high-rise buildings, hospitals, essential facilities, and large assembly space projects

Assist and support in the training and mentoring of other inspection staff to improve consistency in the interpretation and application of the adopted codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, and customer service expectations of the City. Provide expert technical advice and accurate direction in sensitive situations to customers implementing complex construction projects. Coordinate between different disciplines and inspection teams.

May serve as an expert witness and prepare documentation for legal action. Performs other duties as assigned by the Review & Inspection Supervisor, Inspection Services Manager, or Building Official. Qualifications Anyone with the following experience is encouraged to apply: Primary Experience: Possession of the Master Electrician Certificate (ME01) issued by Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and four years of experience as a journeyman electrician, after obtaining an ME01.

Requires a minimum of three years of experience performing inspection work of complex commercial and/or multi-family projects at a level equivalent to a senior or combination inspection for a jurisdiction, enforcement agency, or similar entity. ICC Commercial Inspector certifications in relevant discipline. For Electrical Inspection, the ME01 certification (or equivalent) can substitute for the ICC inspection certification.

Experience in advanced inspection procedures of technical construction methods and practices. Advanced skill in the accurate application of the adopted codes of the City and related construction codes. Ability to read and understand complex plans and design documents.

Can effectively use discretion to make accurate decisions and reliable interpretations in the application of code requirements that are consistent with prior code interpretations and past practices of the City. Possess advanced knowledge of general to complex construction practices, including varied, unique, unusual, and highly complex construction. Proactively assist customers with technical advice so that challenges or violations can be satisfactorily addressed.

Can effectively apply discretion to evaluate proposed methods of meeting applicable codes, particularly when encountering unique or challenging construction. Use excellent judgment requiring expensive or extensive alterations or modifications in response to corrections. Excellent customer service skills with a focus on expedited and simplified solutions while adhering to city code requirements and interpretations within their discretionary authority.

Ability to work well across a wide spectrum of customers and contractors. Resolve the most difficult problems and conflicts with limited assistance. Valid driver's license required; regular driving is an essential function of the job.

High school diploma or GED equivalent Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Secondary Experience: Four years' electrical engineering or design experience Construction superintendent or foreman experience. Combination building, mechanical, plumbing inspection experience.

ICC certifications or equivalent for inspection or plan review.
