Responsibilities

You'll be at the forefront of critical transportation projects, providing expert technical input and innovative solutions.

 Technical Project Work and Project Management

  • Provide senior technical expertise for the delivery of complex highway drainage and transportation-related water resource projects for both public and private sector clients.
  • Lead hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for transportation corridors, including the design of watercourse crossing culverts and bridges hydraulics,roadway culverts, watercourse crossing culverts and bridges hydraulics, ditching, and integrated storm sewers, and stormwater management systems.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and analysis tasks utilizing software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, InfoWorks ICM, and Visual OTTHYMO.
  • Provide technical input for complex or unique assignments.
  • Support multi-disciplinary projects or programs.
  • Direct, coordinate and supervise water resources related activities of engineering and design groups, both from a technical and functional standpoint.
  • Coordinate with cross-disciplines to identify and incorporate relevant data pertaining to hydrologic and hydraulic parameters, system connectivity, discharge points, project constraints, and implementation considerations.
  • Interpret results of simulations to assess capacity, identify system deficiencies, and evaluate improvement alternatives.
  • Apply monitored and statistical data to models to simulate return-period and continuous scenarios, and to calibrate and validate results.
  • Provide project engineering and technical expertise, calculations, and design input to various stormwater management and drainage systems.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed design of drainage and/or stormwater management infrastructure.
  • Undertake studies, assessments, modeling, preliminary and detailed design, cost estimates, specifications, and input to contract documents.
  • Project components include project planning, technical evaluations, studies, preliminary design, final design, and services during construction.
  • Study evaluations include the analysis of alternatives, methods of implementation, and cost analyses.
  • Fulfill project plans in accordance with established scopes of work, budgets, and schedules to execute high quality projects.
  • Develop new or novel concepts and approaches, and recommend major design changes.
  • Input to the career development of more junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring. 
  • Drive technical innovation by pioneering advanced modeling techniques, integrating emerging climate resilience strategies into drainage designs, and deploying cutting-edge digital workflows to optimize infrastructure performance. 

Business Development

  • Contribute to business development activities including leading the preparation of project proposals and presentations.
  • Engagement with our clients to identify potential opportunities and strategic priorities.

Learning & Development

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning to stay knowledgeable of industry best practices and advancements in drainage design.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in civil or environmental engineering or applicable technical degree.
  • Eligible to hold valid a license from the relevant provincial Professional Engineering Association
  • 15+ years' relevant experience with a proven track record in large-scale provincial or municipal highway infrastructure projects. MTO experience will be considered an asset. 
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with water resources tools, such as Visual OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS.
  • Strong understanding of municipal and provincial drainage design standards.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.

Experience
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing drainage design for major highway and transportation corridor developments.
  • Experience with analysis, design and construction administration.
  • Proficiency with the application of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM (1D & 2D), InfoWorks ICM and related computer models would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communications, report writing, organization and interpersonal skills.

Compensation

$104,000 - $150,000

Dillon is including the salary range that we in good faith believe may offer for this position. It will be dependent on the successful applicant's education, experience, and skills, in addition to internal equity and geographic region. Dillon reserves the right to pay outside of the posted range, contingent on factors unrelated to an applicant's gender or other status protected by provincial and/or federal law.
