WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for hybrid telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Serves as a dynamic leader driving the success of daily transportation operations across multiple district offices, provides professional leadership and support to field operations staff that oversees the daily transportation services. Responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and on-time transportation services for all students while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Empowers field operations staff to perform at a high level, ensures alignment with district standards, and proactively addresses operational challenges to maintain service excellence.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Advanced knowledge of school bus routing systems to improve efficiency and service delivery;

  • Extensive knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures governing public school transportation;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;

  • Exhibits strong organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment;

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams with confidence, fostering accountability and professional growth;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to work effectively with school system staff, external agencies, and the community.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Planning, or a related field;

  • Minimum of five years of experience in transportation or a closely related field;

  • Demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience;

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) transportation regulations;

  • Experience supervising within a school transportation environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads, supports, and develops field operations administrators to ensure consistent, high-quality transportation services across all assigned areas.

  • Drives operational excellence by planning, coordinating, and continuously improving transportation services to ensure on-time delivery for all students.

  • Serves and engages as a key liaison between transportation services and school leadership, fostering strong communication and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Proactively implements and communicates changes related to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as district policies.

  • Champions a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with all safety standards and strengthening preventative safety practices.

  • Analyzes operational data and prepares accurate, timely reports to inform decision-making and improve performance.

  • Establishes and reinforces clear expectations to ensure staff consistently adheres to district policies, procedures, and performance standards.

  • Leads and supports recruitment, onboarding, and training efforts to build and sustain a strong, reliable workforce.

  • Identifies operational challenges and implements effective, solution-driven strategies to enhance service delivery and efficiency.

  • Perform additional duties, as assigned, to support departmental and district goals.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, staff members of external funding agencies, vendors, and the community. Work is considered medium physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
