Job Description:
The DBA provides production and project support for designated databases deployed throughout the company. The DBA must also provide database consulting/guidance services to other Grainger business areas. Works with project teams to design and deploy databases
• Performs database upgrade, install and patching
• Monitors database performance and implements changes necessary to maintain acceptable performance levels.
• Ensures the availability and recoverability of all databases.
• Develops and document processes and procedures for maintenance, installation, upgrade, backups and recoveries of production and test databases as required by the business
• Provides 24x7 production database support on a rotational basis if needed
• Troubleshoots and tracing database related transactions in a multi-tier application across internal and ISP networks, firewalls and different platforms (Unix/Linux/Windows)
• DBA will create documentation and provide Knowledge Transfer (e.g. documentation, training) to other Grainger DBAs.
Major responsibilities and duties:
All aspects of SQL Server database and associated technologies.
- 5 years in SQL Server database administration
Mandatory Technical Skills
• Must have SQL Server experience with SQL 2008 through current versions and editions and support experience from Development to Production landscapes.
• Experience SQL Server management tools, Configuration tools, Integration services and Reporting services
• Knowledge of Solarwinds DPA monitoring and experience and use to troubleshoot issues.
• Must have worked hands-on in a SQL Server administrator role in implementing database ystems and providing VPT and production support in large active environments
• Familiarity with VM environments
Nice to have technical skills:
SQL Server certification, knowledge of Powershell
Soft Skills:
• Strong problem analysis and resolution (debugging) skills.
• Time management skills to balance priorities and deliver assignments on time and within budget
• Ability to effectively communicate technical issues to software suppliers and to the business representatives.
• An understanding of production environments including the requirement for high availability and team oriented 24x7 support capabilities.
• Must have the ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced environment.
• Ability to handle high pressure situations and quickly respond and resolve production problems
Additional Job Requirements
DBA MUST have worked in MicroSoft SQL 2012 using Always On configuration with at least one implementation.
MUST have experience with SQL server and Active Directory security configuration.
