Your role and responsibilities

IBM is seeking Software Engineers, Computer Scientists, and Computer Engineers to help develop IBM Power Systems and the IBM i operating system, a highly reliable enterprise platform trusted by organizations around the world. IBM i is a unique integrated operating system that combines operating system, database, security, and virtualization technologies into a single platform running on IBM Power servers.

As a developer, you'll work on challenging systems software projects spanning operating systems, virtualization, security, systems management, development tools, cloud technologies, and AI enablement. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers to design, build, and deliver capabilities that support mission-critical workloads for thousands of businesses worldwide.

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience developing technology at the intersection of hardware and software while helping shape the future of enterprise computing.

Required education

Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with C/C++ through coursework, projects, internships, or research
  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design fundamentals
  • Interest in operating systems, databases, and systems software
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Coursework or project experience in Operating Systems, Database Systems, or Computer Architecture
  • Experience with Git, Linux/UNIX, Python, or SQL
  • Exposure to cloud, virtualization, AI, or open-source technologies
  • Participation in technical projects, hackathons, research, or student organizations

Supplemental 1 employees may be eligible for up to 8 paid holidays, minimum of 56 hours paid sick time and the IBM Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
