Location: Richardson, TX

Cognizant is looking for a SQL Database Administrator for installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, security, performance, and availability of Microsoft SQL Server databases in production and non-production environments to manage mission-critical SQL Server environments and collaborate with application teams to ensure optimal database performance and reliability.

What you'll do in the role:
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server instances.
  • Manage database backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Configure and support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions such as:
    • Always On Availability Groups
    • Log Shipping
    • Replication
    • Database Mirroring
    • Failover Clustering
    • DAG
    • Transparent Data Encryption
  • Monitor database health, performance, and availability.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues, blocking, deadlocks, and replication failures.
  • Perform query tuning, index optimization, and database maintenance activities.
  • Manage security, including logins, users, roles, permissions, encryption, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor SQL Agent Jobs, Alerts, Maintenance Plans, and backups.
  • Conduct capacity planning for CPU, memory, storage, and database growth.
  • Support database migrations, upgrades, and cloud deployments (Azure SQL/AWS RDS).
  • Create automation scripts using T-SQL and PowerShell.
  • Work with application teams during releases, deployments, and production incidents.
  • Provide 24x7 production support and participate in on-call rotations as needed.
