Special Education Teacher Assistant - Autism (APPLE)


Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant Autism (APPLE) Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 203 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Assist students and teachers in the special education Autism program and general education classes. Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment.
  • Educational Aide Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills.
  • Background related to working with children and parents.
  • Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.).
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing).
  • Knowledge regarding Autism preferred.
  • Bus driver training as needed, or as required.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:

  • Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel.
  • Follow teacher instruction and guidance.
  • Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.

Student Management:

  • Assist in maintaining student records.

Other:

  • Participate in planned in-service and professional growth activities related to Autism and other topics.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
None Equipment Used: Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer and various office equipment. Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:

  • Repetitive hand motions.
  • Prolonged use of the computer.
  • Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
  • Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
