Job Summary/Description:

WTOK-TV is seeking a dynamic Sports and News MMJ to aid in our coverage of high school and college athletics across East Mississippi and West Alabama. This position is sports-first, with the ability to shift to general news reporting as newsroom needs require. The successful candidate will produce compelling on-air sportscasts, publish high-performing web content, and contribute daily to the Digital News Desk and all station social platforms.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Sports Coverage:
- Cover high school football and other prep sports, plus college football and other college athletics (previews, recaps, features, enterprise).
- Develop original story ideas and franchise concepts reflective of the communities WTOK serves.
- Build and maintain relationships with coaches, athletes, schools, and key stakeholders.

On-Air / Newscast:
- Anchor and present sportscasts as assigned.
- Produce sports segments and coordinate with producers and newsroom leadership.
- Deliver live reports (or live-to-tape) from the field for sports and, as assigned, news coverage.
- Aid in general news content gathering as needed (gathering Vosots, pkgs, etc.)

Digital / Digital News Desk:
- Publish sports coverage to the station website with accurate details (names, scores, stats, dates/times) and supporting elements as needed.
- Contribute timely sports updates to the Digital News Desk; collaborate on coverage plans.
- When assigned to general news, publish that reporting to the web with the same urgency and accuracy.

Social Media (All Platforms):
- Create and post content for all station social channels, including short-form/vertical video, captions, and platform-appropriate storytelling.
- Promote coverage and engage audiences with consistent, timely updates.

MMJ / Field Production:
- Shoot video, conduct interviews, and edit content for multi-platform distribution.
- Meet daily deadlines and adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Standards & Teamwork:
- Maintain strong editorial judgment and accuracy across all platforms.
- Collaborate effectively with newsroom managers, producers, digital team, and station staff.
- Represent WTOK professionally in the community.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Required:
- Demonstrated ability to report and tell stories on-air and online; sports reporting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong writing skills for broadcast scripts and digital publishing.
- Strong on-camera presentation and interviewing skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak sports seasons.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate station vehicles and field equipment.

Preferred:
- Experience producing and anchoring sportscasts.
- Strong social/vertical video skills.
- Knowledge of the local high school and college sports landscape.
- ENPS (newsroom computer system; scripting, rundowns, wire/assignments as used)
- Edius (non-linear editing)
- TVU (live transmission/backpack)

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and at athletic venues.
- Ability to lift and carry typical news-gathering equipment.
