Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Interpret and enforce National Federation youth soccer rules, as well as local "house" rule adaptations.
• Invoke and impose penalties for violations of said rules.
• Examine equipment and playing area to verify compliance with said rules.
• Supervise and control the general conduct of all participants.
• Proactively represent the Appleton Parks & Recreation program beliefs of skill development, inclusion and fun through active physical and verbal engagement in each game officiated.
• Identify "teachable moments" and proactively instruct participants on age appropriate use of skills and strategies within the game environment.
• Wear proper officiating attire per National Federation rules while complying with the City of Appleton dress code.
• Accurately track and sign for game results and hours worked (pay sheet).
• Maintain a positive environment by encouraging participants, coaches and parents to display proper sportsmanship.
Typical Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of the variety of rules that govern youth soccer.
  • Well versed in the officiating skills needed to effectively manage a game.
  • Ability to supervise and maintain control of all on-field situations.
  • Ability to integrate instruction into the officiating of the game.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and respectfully with coaches, players and spectators.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Adhere to the City of Appleton and Departmental policies and procedures.

Supplemental Information
Work Location: USA Youth Complex
Employment Period: August (Training) and Saturdays from Sept 12th- Oct 24th
Days/Hours per day: Saturdays, 2 - 6 hours
YOUTH SPORT OFFICIAL I REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level Required: High School Student or at least 14 years old.
Grade 2: $13.68-$15.77/hour
YOUTH SPORT OFFICIAL II REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level Required: High School Athletes or Graduates
Pay Grade 4; $17.88-$19.97/hour;
• Two years officiating experience or a combination of past experience at the elementary/junior high or high school level
YOUTH SPORT OFFICIAL III REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level Required: High School Graduate/GED
Grade 5: $19.98-$23.11/hour;
• Four years officiating experience or a combination of past experience at the junior high or high school level
• Earned the respect of participants, coaches, and the public through past work in the department
CERTIFIED SPORT OFFICIAL III REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level Required: High School Graduate/GED
Certified Rate: $31.53/hour;
• Over five (5) years officiating experience or a combination of past experience at the junior high or high school level
• Proof of Soccer Refereeing Certifications
This position is a non-benefited position with the City of Appleton.
