Departmental Summary:

Stats & Analysis is a sports data production team that produces world-class data and insights that ensures fans trust ESPN for depth and perspective. Stats & Analysis is ESPN's sports data provider and operates nearly 24/7 from ESPN's campus in Bristol, CT. Staff is scheduled to cover a wide-ranging sports calendar, so full availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays is essential. S&A is a part of ESPN's Digital Experiences & Engagement team that produces dynamic content experiences that connect, inform and entertain sports fans.

Position Summary:

As a Part-Time Stats Analyst I at ESPN, you will be an integral part of ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of sports data across various ESPN platforms. This entry-level role is perfect for a sports fan with a curious mind and a willingness to learn in a dynamic, technology-driven production environment. You will work closely with a team of innovative, passionate, and tech-savvy professionals to deliver extraordinary experiences to sports fans worldwide. Your role is crucial in maintaining the confidence and engagement of our audience by providing accurate and insightful sports data that powers critical fan-facing experiences and provides the foundation for ESPN's best-in-class sports research and insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and insightfulness of sports data distributed by Stats & Analysis.
  • Work individually and in groups to deliver accurate play-by-play, clock-and-score, and other statistics in real-time.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Stats & Analysis' role in powering ESPN digital products and TV productions.
  • Verify the results of your work and that of others, maintaining a high attention to detail.
  • Contribute to production, projects, and initiatives across the newsroom.
  • Anticipate potential problems and offer solutions, communicating quickly and decisively with colleagues.
  • Take a proactive role in developing or refining production processes.
  • Actively participate in team and department meetings.
  • Seek and respond to feedback on personal performance.
  • Stay informed of current department policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of teams, players, and the rules of various sports.
  • Full schedule availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to quickly learn production processes for maintaining sports data.
  • High degree of content accuracy in time-sensitive situations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to verify data accuracy.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years' experience in sports and/or statistics, preferably in media.
  • Knowledge of how sports data is used in media and research.
  • Working knowledge of ESPN products and productions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office products.
  • Experience using social media in a business or news environment.

Required Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:

College degree or equivalent

Additional Information: (i.e. physical requirements, holiday, nights, weekend shifts, etc.)

Position works nights (almost exclusively), weekends, and holidays.

The base salary for this position in Bristol, CT is $19.28 per hour based on a 24 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
