Job description

This part time mascot position is responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to mascot appearances during Bloomington Bison games and other team and private events. The Mascot plays a critical role to the game presentation and being a representative for the brand and organization as a whole.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Assist in the coordination and execution of mascot event activations.
  • Primary performer: Bloomington Bison games, Bison team related events, private events, etc.
  • Set up and break down mascot equipment for home games and events.
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Game Operations to oversee a successful working partnership between the Bison and independent event organizations and customers.
  • Act as the on-site liaison during mascot appearances.
  • Mascot costume restrictions require performer to be 5'8"-6'0" in height.
  • Ability to ice skate or willingness to learn.
  • Scaled pay depending on if it's a game, appearance, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Formal Education & Certification
  • College degree or pursuing a degree in Marketing, Performing Arts, or other related field is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
Knowledge & Experience
  • Previous mascot experience in college or another professional capacity preferred.
  • Ability to skate strongly preferred.
  • 1 year game presentation or performance experience preferred.
  • Must possess a portfolio or highlight reel of performance experience.
  • Some experience working with college, minor-league or professional sports promotions or marketing.
  • Theater or acting training preferred.
Personal Attributes
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple departments and initiatives.
  • Must be comfortable being spontaneous when interacting with a crowd.
  • Fan friendly attitude and willing to initiate interactions with guests.
  • Ability to work within a team and a service-oriented environment.
Work Conditions
  • Available to work primarily daytime hours as well as evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Available to work all 36 Bison home games.
  • Must attend a pre-shift meeting for each event as scheduled.
  • Lifting requirements - must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Pushing/pulling requirements - must be able to push and pull objects up to 100lbs.
  • Standing requirements - must be able to stand for 5 hours at a time.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather conditions (year-round indoor/outdoor events).
  • Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc.
