Job Description

PLEASE NOTE: Engagement for the Sports Production & Operations Trainee program is on a freelance basis. Frequency of engagement will be based upon the individual’s availability and continued development through the program. Employment can be amended or terminated as needed by the company.

The Sports Production and Operations Trainee program is designed to take entry level talent in the production, technical operations & engineering spaces and train them to develop the skill set necessary to work with NBC Sports on a freelance or permanent basis. ​

This program acts as an excellent entry point into the organization where trainees learn from the best in the business and develop valuable skills to build a career with NBC Sports.​

Responsibilities:

The Sports Production and Operations Trainee program offers exposure to the sports media industry, specifically positions within production, technical operations, and engineering. These positions include but are not limited to:

  • EVS Operator: Responsible for editing, building & playing back playlists while supporting a live show. Transfer video clips from Avid and Xfile. EVS Operators work in high pressure situations requiring a quick or immediate turnaround.
  • Audio: Operates a digital audio mixing console. Import, edit, organize, and playback music cues. Manipulate audio signals with processing tools like equalizers, compressors, and noise reduction units. Routing, processing, and compiling of multiple audio signals and feeds used by live sports productions.
  • Graphics Playback Operator: Operates multiple graphics devices for play-out. Formats graphic templates, organizes data and prepare effects. Checks content for accurate spelling & grammar.
  • Technical Director: Responsible for providing the visual portion of the production. Prepare effects/transitions and operate a production switcher to provide a complete program of multi-layered video sources with graphical effects live for air.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed from our NBC Sports facility in Stamford, CT.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Interest in gaining exposure to technical operations within the media industry
  • Prior exposure to live broadcast facility operations or studio production (including internships or volunteering) a plus 
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, team-oriented environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Flexible, adaptable and curious - you’re willing and excited to step outside of your comfort zone with a hunger to learn 
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
