Sports Graphics information

What are sports graphics?

Sports graphics are visual elements used in the presentation of sporting events, both live and recorded. These graphics may include scoreboards, player statistics, motion animations, replays, and branding visuals displayed on television broadcasts or in stadiums. They help communicate important information quickly and engage viewers with dynamic and informative visuals. Sports graphics are created using specialized software and require creativity, attention to detail, and a good understanding of both design principles and sports rules.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in sports graphics, and how can they be overcome?

Professionals in sports graphics often face tight deadlines and rapidly changing requirements, especially during live broadcasts or major sporting events. Balancing creativity with brand guidelines and technical constraints can be challenging, as graphics must be both visually engaging and quickly adaptable to real-time updates. Collaborating effectively with producers, editors, and technical teams is essential to ensure graphics are accurate and seamlessly integrated into broadcasts. Staying updated with the latest design software and broadcast technologies also helps in overcoming workflow challenges and maintaining high-quality output.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sports graphics designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sports Graphics Designer, you need strong visual design skills, proficiency in typography, and an understanding of branding, often supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Expertise in software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) and experience with motion graphics or broadcast graphics systems are typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work quickly under tight deadlines help set top professionals apart. These skills are essential for producing compelling, on-brand visuals that engage audiences and enhance the sports viewing experience.

Job description

#WeAreParamount on a mission to unleash the power of content... you in?
We've got the brands, we've got the stars, we've got the power to achieve our mission to entertain the planet - now all we're missing is... YOU! Becoming a part of Paramount means joining a team of passionate people who not only recognize the power of content but also enjoy a touch of fun and uniqueness. Together, we co-create moments that matter - both for our audiences and our employees - and aim to leave a positive mark on culture.

This role is a storyteller, not someone who will regurgitate highlights on an anchor desk. We are looking for someone who has a passion for telling local, character-driven sports stories in the community. The Sports Anchor/MSJ will provide sports reports for KORV/KMAX news programs and online properties. This role will participate in the selection of sports related stories for presentation to the viewers.  Must be able to gather, assemble and explain information on all stories assigned to you. Video shooting and editing is required.

The Anchor/MSJ will interview guests and contributors appropriate to the stories being presented. Anchor must remain up to date with current events, in sports and news. This role will also be available to make personal appearances to promote the station.

As a sports anchor/MSJ, you will be assigned to cover and report live stories outside the station - on location. You must write with a clear and engaging style, using video and graphics to illustrate facts and ideas in the story. You must maintain a broad understanding of all sports and ability to tell stories about athletes, teams, leagues and issues, both local and national.

Requirements:
Must have at least six years of comparable television experience, with a minimum of 3 years as a sports anchor, working in a local market or network television news. Must have in-depth presentation and oral communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel. Must be able to do live reporting in an engaging and effective manner. Familiarity with the California region extremely helpful. College degree required or equivalent experience.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to operate keyboard with accuracy and speed, and  have a valid driver's license in order to drive to reporting locations.
