Job description

ABC7-DC has an immediate opening for a Sports Anchor/Reporter.  If you are a passionate and energetic storyteller who can enterprise and deliver fast-paced, visually compelling multi-platform content, then this is the job for you.  In addition to covering our professional teams, you will find and cover a variety of unique, local sports and sports-related human interest stories. You must be someone who understands and embraces a 'digital first' reporting strategy.  

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be able to research, shoot, edit, write, and report stories, and be willing to put the time to track down important stories wherever they may lead.
  • Must be a self-starter who thrives in fast-paced newsroom under deadline pressure and has experience in all facets of media
  • Polished live anchoring skills with the ability to ad-lib are a necessity. 
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Proficient at posting content to websites
  • Must have sharp news judgement.
  • While we work as a team you must have the ability to work well independently
  • Must have and maintain a valid license and a good driving record

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years reporting experience is required.
  • Anchor experience required.
  • College degree in journalism or communications strongly preferred.
  • Experience with live shots is required.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule as needed.
  • Must have mastery of social media tools, including Facebook and twitter and must understand how to properly leverage their use on-air and online
  • Expected to produce daily content on a variety of platforms including, the web, social networking sites and mobile phones, in addition to television.

The annual compensation range for this role is $90,000 - $119,646. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan.Â
