Role overview:

Brightstar Lottery, S.p.A. operates in the Italian regulated lottery and gaming market and has recently launched an online betting and gaming platform which it wants to scale rapidly.

We are seeking a senior manager to help us develop a winning strategy, a compelling customer proposition under pinned by a robust risk management process and team, after the recently launch of the online betting and gaming platform which it wants to scale rapidly.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, driven, and highly experienced Head of Sportsbook to lead this venture from the ground up.

What we are looking for:

We need a dynamic leader to take full ownership of our nascent sports betting vertical. As the Head of Sportsbook, you will own the end-to-end commercial and operational performance of the sportsbook vertical. You will define our go-to-market strategy, manage our 3rd-party platform provider to deliver a localized product roadmap, and oversee all sports risk and trading operations and our outsourced risk management provider.

Main Responsabilities:

Commercial Strategy & Growth:

  • Develop and execute the end-to-end commercial strategy for the Brightstar Italy online sports betting business.
  • Identify growth opportunities across customer acquisition, retention, sportsbook performance, promotional effectiveness, and player value.
  • Collaborate with marketing and CRM teams to design sports-specific promotions, campaigns, and user acquisition funnels
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish robust reporting to monitor performance.

Product & Platform Management:

  • Own the sportsbook product roadmap in partnership with our 3rd-party platform provider.
  • Review, optimize, and localize the sportsbook offering to ensure it meets the specific demands and behaviours of the Italian consumer market.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the platform provider, ensuring SLAs are met, and new features are delivered on time.

Risk Management & Trading:

  • Build from Scratch: Establish the company's entire sports risk management framework, policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Phase 1 (Launch): Manage and monitor the external B2B partner providing our initial risk management and trading services. Define requirements, monitor performance, and ensure alignment with our commercial and risk tolerance objectives. Ensure their algorithms and manual interventions align with Brightstar’s commercial goals.
  • Phase 2 (Scale): Develop robust, proprietary risk management processes, liability limits, and trading procedures tailored to our growing user base and recruit and lead an internal risk management team if required.
  • Own the P&L Exposure: Oversee the sportsbook trading position, monitor betting patterns, and optimize risk management strategies to protect profitability while ensuring a competitive customer offer.
Requirements:
  • Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Italian sports betting market, local customer preferences, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Vendor Management: Proven experience working directly with sportbetting platforms and managing product roadmaps and delivery.
  • Risk & Trading Expertise: Deep understanding of sports betting risk management, liability mitigation, and pricing strategies. Experience transitioning from outsourced to in-house trading is a massive plus.
  • Entrepreneurial Drive: Highly self-motivated with a proactive "builder" mentality. You have the initiative to operate with autonomy and the agility to adapt as the business scales.
  • Language: Fluent in Italian and English.

Professional Experience/Seniority:

A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in the online sports betting (iGaming) industry, with a strong background in sportsbook management, commercial performance, or trading.

This information reflects Brightstar Lottery’s good-faith estimate of compensation for this position at the time of publication. Actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and internal compensation policies. Factors that we consider include, but are not limited to, role, career level, performance, skills, level of expertise, experience, location, market competitiveness, and internal equity. The estimated starting compensation range is €46,002 – €58,387. The Company will comply with all local pay requirements and collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.

In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus with a set target (10% of salary) aligned with individual and company performance. Eligibility and payout may be prorated based on date of hire and service during the performance period or sales commission.

This position is governed by collective bargaining agreement, which regulates the main terms and conditions of employment, including minimum salary levels, classification, working hours, leave, and other employment rights.
