Job description

Department mission

The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation and integration of all citizens through excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities and services.

Responsibilities and goals associated with the position

Reporting to the Manager – Sports, Leisure and Community, the jobholder assists in supervising the activities in his or her unit, whose mission is to offer various high-quality sports, recreational and leisure programs to the population. This person also assists the manager as the official liaison for all external groups and partnerships using the facility. The jobholder helps supervise all human resources, and participates in monitoring the financial and material resources under his or her responsibility. He or she also contributes to ensuring compliance with the standards of the sports and recreational facilities and the smooth running of the programs offered in his or her unit.

The jobholder will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Assist with planning, organizing, directing and monitoring the human resources under his or her responsibility (recruitment, training, supervision, evaluation, scheduling, etc.).
  • Oversee activity programming related to his or her unit.
  • Evaluate the quality of the courses and programs offered to citizens.
  • Identify the needs of the various sports partners in order to maintain and develop the service offer of his or her unit.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all facility clientele.
  • Support the preparation and ensure the management of the budget related to the sections of the facility assigned to his or her area of focus.
  • Ensure the appropriate use of the rooms and equipment based on established schedules.
  • Participate in coordinating and following up on the mandates under his or her unit.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships (meetings, committees, service agreements, etc.).
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of standards, policies, regulations and working methods of the sports and recreational facilities, weight room and pool.
  • Perform all other related tasks.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Recreation, Management or any other related field
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in a leadership position or any other combination of education and experience considered equivalent
  • The position requires good knowledge of French and English to be able to effectively participate in conversations and in various meetings or working committees and to write quality texts and reports in French or English
  • Experience in management and staff supervision
  • Additional competencies sought: Thoroughness, initiative, client-oriented (internal and external), good interpersonal relations, ability to work in a team, ability to plan, organize and control, problem-solving skills, adaptability, human resource management skills

35 hours per week

Tuesday:             8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Wednesday:      11:30 am to 8:00 pm

Thursday:          11:30 am to 8:00 pm

Friday:                10:30 am to 7:00 pm

Saturday:            7:30 am to 4:00 pm
