Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our team, bringing a strong customer-service mindset and collaborative approach. This hands-on role will be responsible for various IHI reporting units, including Shared Services, Aviation, Benefits, Youth Sports, and Nonprofit operations. The accountant will support day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting of daily transactions, completing month-end close activities, and maintaining organized accounting records. This role also collaborates cross-functionally across business units, supports the accounting clerk, and contributes to special projects. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and a solid foundation in accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accurate and timely execution, including monitoring and reviewing aging reports.

  • Responsible for timely month-end closing process; reconcile all bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, prepare and post accurate journal entries, ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and classified.

  • Analyze financial results and identify variances or discrepancies

  • Prepare financial statements for month-end reporting packages. As well as aid with the budget to actual variance analysis to prepare commentary on financial statements.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address accounting related inquiries and provide support for decision-making needs.

  • Manage insurance reimbursement requests and tracking captive activity.

  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies and procedures to mitigate financial risks and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation for reference and compliance purposes.

  • Identify and implement process improvements with innovation, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness organizationally.

  • Work with the Accounting team to provide a clean and timely year-end reporting package to the tax department.

  • Collaborate with department heads for the creation of annual budgets as well as continuous projections as needed.

  • Work in partnership with internal and external auditors to facilitate audit requests.

  • Assist with various financial special projects as needed

  • Ensure compliance with relevant complex accounting standards, laws, and regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.

  • Minimum five (5) years of accounting experience with progressive responsibility

  • Strong accounting skills and an in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application to business.

  • Evidence of highly developed verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously with the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with all levels of colleagues.

  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

  • Detail oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision in financial reporting.

  • Strong Computer skills with the ability to effectively navigate and utilize computer programs and applications essential to job duties. Experience with Oracle a plus.

  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest ethical standards and integrity.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Oracle experience a plus
