The Sustainability Manager is responsible for supporting the State Farm Arena Facilities and Operations Team in achieving Zero Waste. Additionally, the role implements practical sustainable solutions to support operations and maintenance (O&M) and to improve the management of facilities, assets, utilities, and the "Hawk's material supply chain". By monitoring the Hawk's environmental impact at all times, this role will ensure the collection of data and the implementation of changes necessary to successfully operate a ZERO WASTE arena.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Set and communicate daily operational objectives, expectations and create awareness around the department and business objectives with zero waste and energy conservation

  • Educate and train team members on sustainability programs and initiatives

  • Execute immediate operational adjustments and process improvements to resolve recurring issues, including updating waste signage, optimizing the placement of collection points, and deploying additional carts or stations as required by event volume

  • Coordinate sustainability efforts with the appropriate external and internal stakeholders and departments.

  • Work alongside other departments/ teams to flawlessly provide services needed.

  • Resolve guest concerns and complaints

  • Manage on-site collection, staging, and storage of waste, recycling, and compost materials for event and non-event days.

  • Schedule, coordinate, and inspect vendor/hauler pickups and ensure proper handling and chain-of-custody of all materials.

  • Review and reconcile vendor invoices related to Zero Waste operations against manifests, weights, and service logs; flag discrepancies and route for resolution.

  • Create and track purchase orders (POs) for vendor services and operational materials, ensuring all activity aligns with the approved budget.

  • Investigate and resolve operational issues and guest concerns related to waste handling and station placement.

  • Create and maintain a sustainability database that organizes daily/weekly volumes, weights, diversion rates, and pertinent Hawk's use data.

  • Collect, analyze, report, and present data supporting sustainable solutions

  • Prepare regular progress reports and updates to senior management.

  • Contribute to the development of campaigns that advertise and market Hawk's sustainability practices.

  • Regularly research, brainstorm, and recommend sustainable solutions, independently and collaboratively, including developing technologies.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year College or university and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • General knowledge of sustainability (e.g., waste, natural resources, renewable energies, thermodynamics, health, and wellness)

  • Waste, recycling, and compost management

  • Integrating sustainability into facility and asset management, operations, and maintenance for large organizations

  • Collecting and analyzing cross-departmental data.

  • Developing technical reports, proposals, presentations, budgets, and timelines/schedules

  • Creating and executing plans, programs, presentations, and training sessions.

  • Experience interacting with all colleagues at all levels of an organization.

  • Must have a working knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • GBCI True Waste Advisor Certification is preferred
