It combines knowledge from mechanical, materials, electronics, and software engineering to design and analyze products such as sporting gear, wearable technology, and training systems. Sport engineers work to enhance safety, comfort, and performance for athletes at all levels. They may also develop new technologies to assist with data analysis, biomechanics, and injury prevention.

What are careers in sport engineering?

Careers in sports engineering can focus on product design, testing, mass-market manufacturing, and materials science. You can also work on measuring athletes’ performance using a specific product or material. Most sports engineers work for manufacturers or product development companies, but you can also work for sports organizations, teams, or leagues, where your responsibilities include testing the safety of equipment that players use in a specific sport or activity.
