Job description

Job Title: Systems Administrator (Engineering)

Compensation Range: Between $70,000 - $120,000 CDN annually

Essential Functions: 

We are seeking a Systems Administrator to join our  team. As an active member of the Software Engineering department at L3Harris MAS, you are responsible for the maintenance, configuration and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and network equipment, for both our external clients and our internal System Integration Labs and Software Engineering Environment. You should have a strong technical background with excellent communication skills working in close collaboration with team members within the organization as well as external partners, subcontractors, and customers.

  • Management of Systems Integration Laboratories and Software Engineering Environement;
  • Provide friendly and professional service and support to our clients, both remote and on-site;
  • Strong desire to learn in a fast-paced environment and work within a team of like-minded individuals;
  • Increasing collective team knowledge including being a technical subject matter expert;
  • Creation and updates on Engineering Enabling Systems technical documentation, processes and procedures;
  • System Integrations Laboratory Support;
  • Evaluating and installing computer software, hardware, and operating systems software;
  • Management of all inventory (hardware, licensing and software) related to our System Integration Laboratories;
  • Working closely with IT Shared Services on tracking license renewals, equipment end of life and application total cost of ownership;
  • Imaging and technical support of computers, laptops and tablets;
  • Lead desktop and helpdesk support efforts, ensuring all desktop applications, workstations and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions;
  • Ensure all software and hardware maintenances are up to date with the latest patches, firmware and security requirements;
  • Daily Engineering Enabling Systems Team Support
  • Liaise with client technical support to troubleshoot technical issues;
  • Experience with creation and modification of batch files;
  • Knowledge and understanding of XSLT Style sheet;
  • Understanding of FOP (formatting object processing) language.

Qualifications: 

  • Degree with specialization in information technology or equivalent, or equivalent industry experience;
  • Over 5 years of experience in system administration and support, including network and infrastructure management, desktop and server administration, virtualization, security management, Windows server administration, and backup and disaster recovery solutions: Applicants should have extensive hands-on experience managing IT systems, including day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting of both physical and virtual server environments. This includes experience with setting up and maintaining server hardware and software, ensuring network stability, overseeing data center operations, implementing virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), managing security protocols, and developing backup strategies to ensure business continuity and rapid disaster recovery;
  • Strong knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards (e.g., Ethernet, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP): The candidate should be well versed in the design, configuration, and management of network infrastructures. This includes understanding the operational characteristics of local and wide-area networks, knowledge of Ethernet configurations, and fluency in standard network communication protocols like TCP/IP, ensuring seamless data transfer and network reliability;
  • Proficient with deferent Linux distribution Redhat, Suse & Kalylinux;
  • Proficient with monitoring & security tools like Datadig, PRTG, Splunk, Nmap, Wireshark etc; 
  • Solid understanding of core IT services such as Active Directory (AD), DHCP, DNS, and file servers: The individual should have an in-depth understanding of managing and maintaining essential IT services. This includes configuring and managing Active Directory for user authentication and directory services, setting up and troubleshooting DHCP for automatic IP address assignment, managing DNS for domain name resolution, and overseeing file server operations to ensure efficient data storage, access, and sharing across the organization;
  • Experience implementing a data center a stron asset;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills;
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent learning ability; be autonomous and engaged, result-oriented and problem-solving, dynamic and innovative, team-oriented, good adaptability;
  • Knowledge of aerospace & defence an asset;
  • Bilingualism required (French / English).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO Secret security clearance;
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
