Job description

JOB SUMMARY
Join our team at Scientific Protein Laboratories (SPL), a world leader in biosourced pharmaceuticals, located just outside of Madison, Wisconsin in Waunakee! SPL is an innovative biopharmaceutical leader with unique products and services supporting the pharmaceutical industry globally. For over 40 years, SPL specializes in the development and cGMP compliant manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). SPL has an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Instrumentation and Controls Technician.
Under moderate supervision, the Instrumentation & Controls Technician 2 is responsible for performing general and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of existing instrumentation and control systems. Work involves troubleshooting and maintaining network-connected PLC controlled process and utility systems to integrate with existing control systems (including PLCs). Work involves proficiency in two of the following areas: Industrial Instrumentation/Controls, HVAC/Refrigeration Systems, or Mechanical Systems. This position requires exercising initiative and some technical independence in determining work methods and procedures in a manner that will provide accurate, reliable process control. Assignments are received orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by diagrams or sketches. Work is reviewed through inspection and discussion with superiors.
Responsibilities include:
  • Has the ability to start up and perform daily and weekly tests, checks, and analysis on utility and production support equipment.
  • Responds to issues regarding utility and production support equipment and adjusts and repairs as necessary.
  • Under moderate supervision, performs all repairs on utility and production support equipment, including major electrical repairs.
  • Understands preventive and corrective maintenance needs and troubleshoots PLC-controlled equipment that supports various production, solvent recovery, byproduct and utility processes and operations.
  • Continuously improves work area by performing preventive maintenance, adjustments and calibrations instrumentations, controls, and related equipment.
  • Under moderate supervision, performs equipment modifications, upgrades, and installation for new instruments, PLCs and plant equipment expansions and as needed.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Position will be filled up to the Senior level and determined at discretion of the hiring manager.
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required with a minimum of one of the following: ISA or equivalent, Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Certified Control Systems Technician (level 1 CCST), Certified Instrumentation Technician, Certified HVAC/Refrigeration Technician, Master Electrician, or a Licensed Journeyman Electrician.
Experience: 2+ years required, 5+ years preferred
