Job Title: BYU Athletics Softball Director of Player Development

(Note: This is a part-time, contract position)

Job Summary

The BYU Softball Director of Player Development will provide comprehensive analysis and evaluation of team, player, and opponent performance data. This includes match analysis, individual player performance metrics, training load and optimization data, and tactical insights to support game strategy. The role plays a critical part in translating video and performance data into actionable insights that support practice planning, competition preparation, and individualized player development.

This position will support the growth of student-athletes by identifying performance trends, strengths, and areas for improvement, and by contributing to position-specific development priorities. Through collaboration with the coaching staff, the Director will help align analytical insights with team objectives and individual development plans, promoting continuous improvement, accountability, and performance readiness. The position will also assist in monitoring workload and readiness indicators to support effective training decisions and long-term athlete development.

This role is essential in providing timely, accurate, and relevant information to inform coaching decisions and enhance both team performance and the overall development experience of BYU Women's Softball student-athletes. This position reports directly to the Softball Head Coach.

What you'll do in this role:

Student Athlete Development

  • Support the holistic development of student-athletes by providing individualized performance feedback through video, data, and one-on-one review sessions.

  • Reinforce tactical understanding, performance accountability, and growth mindset while collaborating with coaching staff to align feedback with team expectations and individual development goals.

Video & Performance Analysis

  • Conduct comprehensive review and breakdown of practice and game film using advanced analytics platforms to evaluate team performance, tactical execution, and individual decision-making.

  • Tag and categorize key moments to support efficient coaching review and player learning.

  • Generate post-session and post-game reports that translate video analysis into actionable coaching insights.

Player & Position Analytics

  • Develop and deliver position-specific performance reports using objective data and video clips to reinforce strengths and identify targeted areas for development.

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) by player and position to monitor progress over time.

  • Collaborate with coaching staff to align individual feedback with team tactical goals and development plans.

Game Preparation

  • Identify opponent strengths, vulnerabilities, and patterns of play to support strategic game planning.

  • Prepare curated video playlists and concise analytics summaries for coaching staff and team meetings.

Sports Performance Monitoring

  • Support the collection, management, and analysis of player tracking data

  • Monitor workload metrics (e.g., total distance, high-speed running, accelerations/decelerations, player load) to assist in performance optimization and injury-risk mitigation.

  • Generate regular workload and readiness reports and collaborate with coaching and sports performance staff to inform training adjustments and recovery strategies.

What Qualifies You to Apply?

Minimum education/experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience/education

  • Willingness to uphold and live by the university's Honor Code

  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend, which may be verified during the application process.

Preferred:
  • Experience playing for or working with a professional or Division I collegiate softball team

  • Experience with game analysis and training load management
