Position Specific Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Principal Data & Smart Grid Platform Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of enterprise-scale data platforms supporting Smart Grid and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems. This role is critical to enabling real-time operations, analytics, and enterprise integration across our utility technology ecosystem.
As a senior technical leader, you will help architect and evolve cloud-native data solutions that power grid modernization, outage management, customer analytics, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI first engineer and leveraging emerging AI tools, technology and patterns to execute on work as well as product solutions 
  • Coordinating with the Offshore teams 
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable data platforms supporting AMI and Smart Grid systems
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and storing high-volume telemetry and event data
  • Integrate AMI data platforms with enterprise systems
  • Design and manage APIs and microservices for real-time data access and system interoperability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align architecture with business and operational needs
  • Ensure data quality, governance, and security across all AMI-related data flows
  • Mentor technical teams and contribute to architectural standards and best practices
  • Hands-on experience participating in Agile/Scrum teams, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in utility, energy, or industrial IoT environments is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and distributed systems

Preferred Technical Expertise

  • Cloud Data Lakes: Experience with AWS S3 or equivalent for scalable data ingestion and storage
  • Data Warehousing: Proficiency with Amazon Redshift or similar platforms for structured data analytics
  • AI-Assisted Full-Stack Development
  • Agentic AI Workflow Integration
  • NoSQL & Real-Time Databases: Hands-on experience with Amazon DynamoDB or similar for low-latency data access
  • ETL/ELT & Data Pipelines: Expertise with AWS Glue, Apache Spark, or EMR for batch and real-time processing
  • Streaming & Messaging Platforms: Familiarity with Apache Kafka and Amazon Kinesis for real-time data ingestion
  • API & Integration Services: Experience with RESTful APIs, AWS API Gateway, Lambda, and SQS
  • Time-Series Data Management: Knowledge of Amazon Timestream or similar platforms
  • Enterprise System Integration: Understanding of integration patterns with downstream systems
  • Analytics & Visualization: Proficiency with Power BI, Grafana, or Redshift Spectrum
  • Security & Governance: Familiarity with data governance, access control, and cybersecurity best practices

Preferred Certifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
  • TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or DevOps-related certifications
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher (a plus)
