Spatial Transcriptomics Omics information

What is spatial transcriptomics in omics research?

Spatial transcriptomics is a cutting-edge technology in the field of omics that allows researchers to measure and map gene expression within the spatial context of intact tissue sections. This means scientists can see which genes are active in specific locations of a tissue, preserving the spatial relationships between cells. By combining spatial information with transcriptomic data, researchers gain deeper insights into tissue organization, cellular interactions, and disease mechanisms. This approach is especially valuable for understanding complex tissues like tumors or brain structures.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a spatial transcriptomics specialist?

To thrive as a Spatial Transcriptomics Specialist, you need a strong background in molecular biology, genomics, and bioinformatics, typically supported by an advanced degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing platforms, spatial omics technologies, and data analysis tools like R or Python is essential, along with experience using laboratory automation systems. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective interdisciplinary communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills ensure accurate experimental design, robust data interpretation, and successful collaboration in cutting-edge biological research.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in spatial transcriptomics omics, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working in Spatial Transcriptomics Omics often encounter challenges such as managing and interpreting large, complex datasets, integrating multi-omics data, and keeping pace with rapidly evolving technologies. Effective collaboration with bioinformaticians, pathologists, and laboratory technicians is essential to ensure high-quality results. Staying updated with the latest analytical tools and participating in cross-disciplinary training can help overcome these challenges and enhance both research quality and career growth.

What is the difference between Spatial Transcriptomics Omics vs Spatial Transcriptomics Technician?

AspectSpatial Transcriptomics OmicsSpatial Transcriptomics Technician
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees (Master's/PhD) in molecular biology, genomics, or related fieldsAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in biology, biotechnology, or related fields
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, biotech companies, academic institutionsLaboratories, research facilities, biotech companies
Industry UsageResearch and development, data analysis, method developmentSample preparation, data collection, equipment operation

Spatial Transcriptomics Omics professionals focus on data analysis, method development, and research, often requiring advanced degrees. In contrast, Spatial Transcriptomics Technicians handle sample preparation and operate equipment, typically with a technical diploma or bachelor's degree. Both roles are essential in the spatial transcriptomics industry but differ in responsibilities and qualifications.

Job description

Reporting to the Bioinformatics Senior Principal Investigator, the Bioinformatics Scientist will focus on complex experimental and clinical bioinformatics data sets.

Responsibilities
  • Successfully execute bioinformatics studies in collaboration with other R&D wet-lab scientists, clinical teams and bioinformaticians on multiple defined priority areas.
  • Effectively communicate results in R&D and corporate meetings, prepare abstracts/manuscripts for publications and conferences.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders and vendors to recommend data capture technologies and pre-clinical experimental models best aligned with bioinformatics and wet-lab research objectives.
  • Implement and validate newly identified bioinformatics analytical advances using bioinformatics practices for reproducible and modular analysis (markdown documentation, r/v env locks, git, nextflow, snakemake, dockers, conda).
  • Review and improve existing in-house analysis R/Python workflows for large-scale Omics data using ML/AI integration to achieve efficient end-to-end analysis, scale-up, and predictive models.
  • Apply statistical predictive models (including AI) to wet-lab experiments and processes typically involved in drug discovery/development pipelines working with teams of scientists.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, abstracts, and manuscripts as required, following established standards for documentation, reproducibility of code and data integrity.
Qualifications
  • A Ph. D or equivalent experience in biology, chemistry or bioinformatics with strong skills in the analysis of Omics datasets (bulk/single-cell/spatial transcriptomics, WES, epigenomics, metabolomics and/or proteomics) in preclinical and clinical disease models.
  • Experience using Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence tools in the context of Omics, single cell Atlases, clinical disease modeling and/or drug development pipelines.
  • Strong skills in bioinformatics, coding proficiency in R/Python, cloud computing environments. Experience with developing user-facing tools for data visualization and reporting (Shiny, Plotly, Quarto, etc) would be desirable.
  • Strong understanding of cell biology especially with respect to basic biochemistry, cell signaling, cell replication, transcription, translation processes.
About Us

Celcuity is a commercial biotechnology company pursuing development of targeted therapies for treatment of multiple solid tumor indications. The company's first FDA-approved product is REVTORPYK (gedatolisib), a potent, pan-PI3K and mTORC1/2 inhibitor that comprehensively blockades the PAM pathway. REVTORPYK is approved to treat adults with HR+/HER2- advanced breast cancer that progressed on prior endocrine therapy in the metastatic setting.

The Phase 3 VIKTORIA-2 trial is evaluating gedatolisib in combination with palbociclib and either fulvestrant or letrozole for the first-line treatment of HR+/HER2- locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer. A Phase 1/2 clinical trial evaluating gedatolisib in combination with darolutamide in patients with metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer, is ongoing.

Celcuity is an Equal-Opportunity Employer.

Celcuity is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices, and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are competitive. For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $110,000 - $120,000 DOE. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geography, qualifications, skills, and experience.

The successful candidate will be eligible for an annual performance incentive bonus and a new hire equity package. Celcuity also offers various benefits offerings, including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) match, PTO, and paid holidays.
