Job description

Position: GIS Analyst III

Location: 1844 W Ferry Rd, Naperville IL, 60563 Hybrid (4 days onsite / 1 day remote)
Duration: 3 Years
Client: Nicor Gas


Position Summary

The GIS Analyst III will develop a strong understanding of current GIS data environments, workflows, and business processes to design and implement solutions for data integrations, transformations, and deliverables.

This role supports GIS data analysis, data mining, technical support, database design, and maintenance to meet both internal and external customer requirements. The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to solve complex problems, recommend optimal data processing strategies, and support enterprise-level GIS initiatives within a utility or pipeline environment.


Key Responsibilities

GIS Data Analysis & Development

  • Perform advanced GIS analysis, modeling, and database design
  • Conduct data mining to meet customer requirements and specifications
  • Generate specialized queries, maps, and reports
  • Process, prepare, convert, and migrate spatial and tabular data
  • Maintain and update GIS databases

Utility & Pipeline GIS Support

  • Apply linear referencing techniques and concepts
  • Work with Utility and Pipeline Data Model (UPDM)
  • Support Utility Network and ArcGIS Enterprise environments
  • Perform QA/QC on versioned data prior to production deployment

Automation & Technical Support

  • Create and maintain automated processes using Model Builder, Python scripting, or other tools
  • Perform application testing and document defects
  • Develop testing scripts and execute validation procedures
  • Interface with users to gather requirements and document requested system changes

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Analyze current business processes and recommend best-practice solutions
  • Identify new GIS technologies, processes, or applications to enhance operations
  • Support inter- and intra-departmental GIS improvements

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography (GIS), Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
    AND 3+ years of experience in industry-standard GIS

OR

  • GIS certificate with 3+ years of related work experience

Preferred:

  • 1+ year experience in utility or pipeline GIS environments
