What is a space data manager?

A Space Data Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the collection, storage, organization, and analysis of data generated from space missions, satellites, telescopes, or other space-related technologies. They ensure that data is accurate, accessible, and secure for scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders. Their work often involves managing large datasets, implementing data standards, and coordinating with teams to support research and mission objectives. Space Data Managers may also facilitate data sharing and compliance with international data policies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a space data manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Space Data Manager, you need expertise in data management, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis, often backed by a degree in data science, geoinformatics, or a related field. Familiarity with satellite data processing tools (such as ArcGIS, ENVI, or QGIS), database systems, and possibly certifications in data governance or space data applications is typically required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. These competencies are essential for ensuring the integrity, accessibility, and strategic use of space-derived data in research and operational decision-making.

What are some common challenges faced by space data managers when integrating data from multiple satellite sources?

Space Data Managers frequently encounter challenges related to data standardization and interoperability when integrating information from various satellite systems. Each satellite may use different formats, resolutions, and collection methods, requiring robust data transformation and quality assurance processes. Additionally, managing large volumes of data while ensuring data integrity and accessibility for cross-functional teams is a key responsibility. Collaborating closely with engineers, analysts, and sometimes international partners is essential to streamline workflows and maximize the value of collected space data.

Job description

About Us: EvolutionIQ's mission is to deliver state of the art technology that helps insurance claims teams make claims handling more accurate, fair, and efficient, so that more people impacted by injury or illness can continue their lives with dignity and stability. We are currently experiencing massive growth and to accomplish our goals, we are hiring world-class talent who want to help build and scale internally, and transform the insurance space. Our team is our #1 priority, and we have been named one of Inc.'s Best Workplaces 3 years in a row and Built In's Best Places to work in 2025 and 2026!

As the Director, Data Insights, you will be the primary bridge between our technical depth and our most critical business decisions. You aren't just managing data; you are managing influence. Your mission is to translate complex data signals into persuasive business narratives that change how our internal leaders and external partners operate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Executive Advisory: Serve as the "Data Voice" in the room for high-stakes meetings with C-suite executives and external stakeholders. You will defend findings, negotiate priorities, and provide real-time strategic counsel.
  • Narrative Design: Take the raw output from our data science and engineering teams and synthesize it into "Board-ready" presentations that drive multi-million dollar decisions.
  • Culture Transformation: Act as a change agent to move the organization from "data-aware" to "data-driven." You will challenge existing business assumptions and push for evidence-based pivots.
  • Stakeholder Diplomacy: Navigate conflicting interests between departments (e.g., Sales vs. Product) by using data as the objective "source of truth" to build consensus.
  • Value Realization: Work closely with the data team to ensure their technical roadmap is strictly aligned with the highest-value business outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Strategic Pedigree: Proven experience leading high-level discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Data Fluency: While you may not be coding daily, you have a deep understanding of data science workflows, analytics engineering, and statistical significance.
  • Communication Mastery: Exceptional ability to visualize data and craft compelling slide decks or memos for executive audiences.
  • Business Acumen: A deep understanding of how businesses make money and how data can be used to optimize those levers.
  • A Modern Day Individual Contribitor: Can leverage agentic tools to do quick analytics as needed for high pressure leadership discussions.

Work-life, Culture & Perks:

  • Compensation: The base salary range is $250-280K, with flexibility depending on a candidate's background and experience. An annual bonus plan and company equity plan (RSUs) are also included in our compensation package.
  • Well-Being: Medical, dental, vision, short & long-term disability, life insurance and AD&D, and 401k matching. Additional family, wellness, and pet benefits.
  • Home & Family: Paid time off and sick leave, 100% paid parental leave (16 weeks for primary caregivers and 12 weeks for secondary caregivers). We offer a flexible schedule for new parents returning to work.
  • Office Life: Catered lunches, happy hours, pet-friendly spaces, and monthly technology stipend.
  • Growth & Training: $1,000/year for each employee for professional development, as well opportunities for tuition reimbursement.
  • Sponsorship: We are open to sponsoring candidates currently in the U.S. who need to transfer their active visa. Please check with our Recruiting team if your visa is applicable for transfer.

EvolutionIQ appreciates your interest in our company as a place of employment. EvolutionIQ is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
