Sr. Piping Designer – SP3D

Position Type: Contract

Position Location: Houston, TX

Position Salary: $60/HR - $75/HR (Depending on Experience)

Responsibilities
  • Lead a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, incorporating various system components, and refining rough sketches. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.
  • Quality review PFDs and P&IDs from verbal or written description from the design engineer.
  • Quality review basic formulas, principles and practices, and use acquired knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices pertaining to the piping discipline.
  • Lead drawing, planning, development, and production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Evaluate designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects for quality assurance.
  • Approve reports, drawings, and tests to plan and lead design projects to meet deliverables.
  • Approve design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Lead production of design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Compute calculations for layouts, equipment, wiring diagrams, and schematics under the direction of the engineer.
  • Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into piping design and layouts for project financial goals.
  • Responsible for the quality review of all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
  • Train, mentor, and develop less experienced drafting, detailing and design staff members.
  • Participate in marketing and client development meetings.
  • Responsible for the piping design QA/QC process.
  • Review, coordination, and clash detection using 3D tools.
  • Ability to work and incorporate point clouds into the design process.
  • Lead and manage creation of piping isometrics using 2D/3D software applications.
  • Create material take-offs.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED; Higher Education Preferred
  • 8+ years progressive experience in Piping Design. (Specifically S3D Piping Design Software)
  • Must have a strong understanding of SP3D to develop the design deliverables.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Modular experience a plus; Experience working with workshare teams
  • Expert ability to utilize 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Expert knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
  • Expert knowledge in the theory and practices of assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to clients, Project Managers, Engineers and Designers in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail
